Campus news at HSE University

On June 10^th, the Cultural Centre hosted the open final of the HSE Startup Cup competition held by the HSE Business Incubator. First place in the ‘Idea’ category went to a project by 13-year-old Daniil Khachaturov to adapt educational web resources for blind and visually impaired people. The student and his mentor, Gulshat Suhanova, lecturer at the Institute of Education of HSE University, spoke with the News Service about his participation in the incubator and his start-up idea.

Peio Zuazo-Garin, ICEF Assistant Professor and a PhD graduate from the University of the Basque Country, joined HSE University at a time when all the usual formats of research and teaching were disrupted by the pandemic. In an interview he told how to adapt to a new place of work online, what are the pros and cons of academic prestige, why he loves Moscow and why he recalls bullfighting during the discussions with ICEF students.

From June 22-23, the virtual Times Higher Education Young Universities Summit, jointly organized with HSE University, will take place. This marks the first time that the summit will be conducted with support from a Russian university. The choice of HSE is no coincidence: it is the only Russian university in the Top 50 of THE Young University Ranking.

The HSE Graduate School of Business (GSB) held its first open-air student festival, Project Fest by GSB, at Shabolovka. It was the final stage of the Student Groups Project Competition for the 2020/2021 academic year. Lectures, master classes, business games from students and business representatives, and educational and entertainment activities were also organised for all Festival visitors.

Starting June 1, 2021, international students who pay full tuition or receive partial grant awards from HSE University have the opportunity to choose from a new range of housing options in Moscow.

This year, the MIEM TechnoShow was held in a mixed online-offline format. The final key annual event of the MIEM project cycle featured 60 student team works. Another distinctive feature of this year’s TechnoShow was the large number of customer companies operating in different industries and economic sectors. For more details, read our report below.

In the contest organized by AIM2Flourish, students from various countries tell stories about companies that promote the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. HSE students won in the global goals of ‘Quality Education’ and ‘Partnerships for the Goals’ with cases of Kaspersky and VimpelCom PJSC (Beeline brand), respectively. They have become the first Russian representatives to earn these prestigious awards.

The online project 'Inspired by Your Bright Future: HSE Business Talk' was created for participants from all over the world as a platform for public discussions. From the end of November till the end of May, industry experts and HSE professors held twelve webinars to discuss different areas, from logistics and marketing, business in China and Arabic countries, climate change, to entrepreneurship, finance, and new technologies. The project brought together more than 3,000 participants from over 115 countries.
