On November 15 Daniel Treisman, Professor of Political Science at the University of California, gave a lecture on ‘Topical Problems of Teaching and Research in Political Economy’. One of the leading political scientists in the world, Professor Treisman arrived in Moscow as an expert member of the International Advisory Committee for the HSE’s Programme of Development as a National Research University. What does he think about the prospects for our university?

On October 28th and 29th the first French-Russian Conference took place at the Higher School of Economics, involving discussions on double-degree cooperation programmes and PhD and research collaboration in public administration. Is there bureaucracy in France and what should future officials know? On October 29th the results of the open public competition of the Ministry of Education and Science for financial support of research conducted under supervision of leading scientists in Russian universities were announced. Fedor Bogomolov, Professor of Mathematics at the New York University, and Ronald Inglehart, Professor at the University of Michigan Center for Political Studies, will both receive grants for research work at the HSE.
On October 28th and 29th, the French-Russian Scientific Conference ‘Economy, Politics, Society: New Challenges and Opportunities’ took place at the Higher School of Economics and brought together 250 Russian and 150 French participants. The forum was the largest scientific meeting in the history of French-Russian relations.
On October 22nd and 23rd the first international conference ‘Research in Higher Education’ took place at the Higher School of Economics. The event was organized by the HSE together with the Boston College Center for International Higher Education, the World Bank and the National Foundation for Professional Training.
On September 17tha delegation from the University of Lancaster, Great Britain, visited the Higher School of Economics. At a series of meetings, the guests learnt more about the HSE’s activities, and were involved in negotiations regarding possible areas of cooperation between the two universities.
On September 17th the International Research and Educational Laboratory of Financial Economics opened at the HSE. It was founded by the HSE International College of Economics and Finance together with the London School of Economics and Political Sciences.
On September 10th a meeting between representatives of the HSE and Tohoku University, Japan, took place at the HSE. The aim of the visit was a preliminary discussion of the potential areas of cooperation between the two universities.
