HSE Brings Nations Together

On June 4, 2017, the international culture festival ‘The Whole World at HSE’ will take place at Shabolovka as part of our anti-versary celebrations.

HSE is not only Russia’s largest university, it is also a key platform for intercultural communication. Students from all over the world study here, over 100 international professors teach here, and a lot of English-taught programmes are offered by the university.

HSE introduces foreigners to Russian culture, and they, in turn, become guides to the traditions of their home countries. The university offers a wealth of opportunities for everyone involved in it to share their culture.

One such opportunity is ‘The Whole World at HSE’ festival, which brings together traditions from all over the globe. The festival will host a ‘foreign embassies’ quarter, where students from various countries will speak about their homelands, share useful travel tips, treat guests to national delicacies, and demonstrate their traditional costumes.

The festival programme looks at the world from different perspectives. Travel bloggers and journalists will speak about their experiences of immersion in various cultures, share their secrets about traveling for free and finding common language with the locals. Invited guests include Andrey Ponkratov, journalist at Moya Planeta TV channel and Kolya Serga, presenter on the Orel&Reshka TV show, among others.

At the World Arts venue, visitors will learn about contemporary architecture in Japan, the traditions of Russian hip hop, today’s China, among many other thrilling things from HSE professors.

Language master classes will allow guests learn the basics of various languages and Asian calligraphy; dance workshops will teach the Lezginka, Palestinian Dabke, and how to play drums from Azerbaijan. The lounge zone offers the opportunity to relax and enjoy music and tea ceremonies by Dongxi tea house; and there will be venues for painting and board games.

And of course, there will be a big evening concert with a secret headliner to top it off.

The festival programme is available on the website.
