HSE Day at Gorky Park: Fun for Everyone

On September 14, the Higher School of Economics is again welcoming guests at Moscow’s Gorky Park to celebrate HSE Day – an extraordinary event that has become a tradition of citywide proportions. HSE Day has a lot to offer for everyone and is open to international students and faculty members.

Open Air Lectures

HSE Day traditionally features lectures on a variety of topics. As part of City of the Future lecture series Professor Robert John Aumann, winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2005 will deliver a presentation. HSE’s international faculty members will take part in HSE Open Talks, an English-language lecture series. Academics from all over the world representing the most diverse disciplines will speak on topics ranging from evolution and literature to the philosophy of hunting witches.

The Whole World at HSE

This event will not only introduce students to one another, but entire countries as well. At HSE Parade of Nationalities that will start at 1.30 p.m. you will be able to get the sense of how global and international HSE has become during its flag parade where representatives of more than 20 nationalities will march around Gorky Park.

Russian tea party will focus on international communication through trivia and games dedicated to the Russian language and our rich culture. Our tea culture will be demonstrated at the ceremony, among other things, through the whistling of the iconic samovar and the delicious taste of cakes and cracknels.   We invite all guests of HSE Day, especially our foreign colleagues and international students, to attend the Russian tea ceremony, a unique part of national culture.

At HSE International Street you can communicate with people from different cultures, try their national dishes, and take part in quests and quizzes on different cultures. The International Student Association will also hold workshops on national dances, languages and martial arts (such as capoeira) as well as a variety of contests and other activities.

A Portrait of HSE

In honour of HSE’s anniversary, a series of short interviews has been filmed with key people tied to the university, including members of HSE’s leadership, distinguished professors and alumni, students, as well as members of the Board of Trustees and the International Advisory Committee who have influenced the university’s development.

The video interviews will be shown at HSE Day celebration, after which they will be made available on both HSE’s website (hse.ru) and the university’s official social media channels.

HSE Family

Science Battles

HSE Science Battles is a new project that provides firsthand information about the best student research in an interactive format. Five students have 10 minutes to speak about their research without boring presentations using only public speaking skills and props. Young researchers will present projects on various topics, including big data and machine learning in modern experimental physics, the motives of nostalgic consumption, visual working memory and accuracy in memory and cognition and others. The winner will be selected by the audience and the jury before advancing to the finals.

HSE Sports & HSE Land

All visitors are welcome to take a memorable journey to HSE Land, an active game and competition zone where you can have a good time demonstrating your poetry skills, playing Mafia or Alias, taking part in different workshops and Xsport club activities.

HSE Sports area will feature dance workshops and sports contests, including football, volleyball, table tennis, and basketball. Everyone is invited to feel the energy of the dance and try themselves at salsa, twerking or reggaeton, find harmony practicing Yoga or wushu, or challenge themselves in capoeira, ultimate or rugby.

HSE Music

You can entertain yourself all day with sports, food, and dancing, but music always has the last word. It is what sets the mood for an event, and it is thanks to music that HSE Day is full of emotion. At the Azhurnaya Rotunda, HSE Day guests will enjoy acoustic performances and a poetry reading and attend special musical performances by Gnessin Baroque ensemble, while the event’s special guests - a pop music band 'Gradusy' and a rapper Noize MC - will be giving a large concert at the Green Theatre in the evening.
