The Case Centre to Include Cases by HSE
The Case Centre, the world’s largest storage resource for study cases in business and management, now includes cases from HSE.
‘Study cases are an integral part of management training,’ said Igor Gurkov regarding the project, adding: ‘They are especially important for MBA programmes. Initially, cases were used to solve strategic and HR management problems. However, today they are used in marketing courses, as well as in teaching finance, microeconomics, and macroeconomics. Many cases, especially those marked as ‘field research’, contain unique information about companies or particular issues received directly from executives and other managers.’
Four cases by HSE lecturers have been dedicated to HEM LTD, a company involved in the manufacture and sale of equipment and supplies to medical laboratories. These cases offer the real “saga” of HEM LTD’s development since its founding in the early 1990s up until April 2016. They demonstrate the real problems and difficulties faced when innovative projects are implemented in Russian companies. The creation of such a “saga”, including detailed information about the company, its partners, business environment and state regulation of medicine and related areas, was possible thanks to the support of Stanislav Goldberg, CEO of HEM LTD and a board member of Opora Rossii (a Russian association of small and medium-sized enterprises).
The more Russian and international students know about the realities of Russian business, the easier it will be for them to work in Russian companies or do business with them.

On March 10, 2017, the HSE campuses in Moscow and St. Petersburg were admitted to QTEM, an international network of the world’s leading business schools. This means that every year the 20 best management and finance MA students from both campuses will benefit from a range of network member opportunities, and after they graduate from their programme at their home university, will receive a prestigious QTEM graduate certificate.
The HSE Perm student team has won the national round of the L'Oreal Brandstorm Tech Challenge, becoming the best in Russia. The national selection round in this case competition was held in Moscow, and the 9 best Russian teams competed for the national title.
Julien Keyser from France has gained admissions to the English-taught Master's Programme in Global Business. The programme is run by HSE campus in Nizhny Novgorod. In his interview Julien talks about his reasons for choosing the programme and what he he expects studying in Russia will be like.
Many management students have difficulties predicting their career paths for the next five or ten years. Some of the students obviously have big hoped for their future and are confident about rapid career growth. They believe that by 30 they will be able to become top-level managers in medium and big organizations, and will never repeat the mistakes of their principals and teachers. Companies with decentralized management systems are, on average, more effective than firms where the CEO tries to control everything. The risk of centralization is higher if the company is managed by families. These were the main findings of the recent research by Irina Levina, research fellow at the HSE Institute for Industrial and Market Studies.

Four HSE Research Centers Included in the Boston College Worldwide Inventory of Higher Education Research Centers
The Boston College Center for International Higher Education has published its Worldwide Inventory of Research Centers, Academic Programmes and Journals in Higher Education. Four Russian research centers are included, all of them are part of HSE.
