The first courses by HSE University appeared on Coursera in 2014. Over the last five years, the university has created 92 courses in six fields, with over 40 of them taught in English. The number of HSE University certificates issued for Coursera students has reached 85,110.
The Top 10 countries by the number of registrations for online courses over the whole period of HSE-Coursera cooperation has included Russia, the United States, India, Ukraine, China, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Brazil, and France.
The Advanced Machine Learning specialization was created jointly by HSE University and Yandex and received an Outstanding Educator Award from the platform this year. In 2018, the same specialization made it to the Best Coursera Contents 2018 list. Among the most popular projects is Introduction to Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science, which was created jointly with UCSD in partnership with Yandex, and Foundations of Digital Marketing, which is implemented jointly with Google.
This academic year, HSE University will begin admissions to its new online Master's programme in Data Science, which will be offered on Coursera, the world’s leading online learning platform. The application deadline for admission to the programme is December 6. Courses begin in February. Upon the successful completion of the programme, students will receive a Master’s degree from HSE University, which is internationally recognized.
HSE’s Online Specialization ‘Advanced Machine Learning’ Receives Outstanding Educator Award from Coursera
HSE's English-taught online specialization, ‘Advanced Machine Learning’, which was created in partnership with Yandex, became the first course in Russia to receive the Outstanding Educator Award in the category of ‘Innovation’ from the global online platform Coursera.
On February 24, 2014, HSE launched its first course on the Coursera online education platform. Along with St. Petersburg State University and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, HSE was one of the first Russian universities to host a course on the platform. Now HSE ranks among the top ten universities with the highest number of courses available on the platform, offering 91 courses which have garnered 1.6 million subscriptions.
Global online platform Coursera has launched the Data Science Academy project - a guide to the world of data science with a selection of the best online courses, specializations, and online master's programmes from world leading companies and universities. The English online course ‘Advanced Machine Learning’, developed by HSE in cooperation with Yandex is among the Academy's courses.
In July, HSE is launching two English-taught courses on Coursera. Enrollement for the courses is still open. The full list of online courses offered by HSE is available on HSE MOOCs page.
By early spring, HSE will have launched a range of new courses on Coursera in psychology, computer language analysis, economics, media and international relations.
‘Introduction to Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science’ and ‘Advanced Machine Learning’ are English-language specializations, both created with the support of the top Russian IT firm Yandex, while the specialization ‘Introduction to Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science’ was developed with the involvement of the University of California at San Diego.
A new English-taught course offered by the HSE Faculty of Computer Science kicks off on Coursera on July 17, 2017: Mobile Interaction Design: How to Design Usable Mobile Products and Services. Its author is Pavel Manakhov, Associate Professor at the HSE School of Software Engineering and Lead Interaction Designer at UsabilityLab.
The number of people subscribing to HSE’s online courses on Coursera, one of the world’s most popular online learning platforms, has reached 1 million. Users represent nearly the entire globe, with HSE courses being taken in nearly 200 countries.
