HSE University-St Petersburg is going to open a representative office at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya, Indonesia. The corresponding agreements were reached during a working trip by a delegation headed by HSE University-St Petersburg Director Anna Tyshetskaya.

‘The opening of a representative office at one of Indonesia’s leading universities is an important step in developing cooperation with the country’s educational community,’ said Anna Tyshetskaya. The campus director added that the office will be a permanent centre providing information about HSE University and education in Russia in general.

ITS was chosen for the representative office because it is one of Indonesia’s leading science and technology universities. It places highly in rankings both at the national and regional levels. At the international level, it consistently ranks among the country’s top universities according to the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking. In 2022, the university ranked 277th in the QS subject rankings in Engineering and Technology. ITS is a key platform for implementing major educational initiatives in its country, a quality it shares with HSE University.

In the course of the working visit, HSE University also conducted a series of guest lectures examining the academic and scientific aspects of cooperation with the faculties of media, business, IT, and computing at more than 20 leading Indonesian universities. These include UIN Lampung, Universitas Negeri Malang, Sam Ratulangi University, Lanpung University, and others.

The lectures for staff and students of the Indonesian universities were given by HSE University-St Petersburg Director Anna Tyshetskaya, Vice President Manoj Sharma, and Head of the International Office Maria Kiseleva.

In July 2022, HSE University and the University of Indonesia agreed to expand the partnership with HSE’s campuses in Moscow, Perm, and Nizhny Novgorod. They also agreed to support the study of Russian language in Indonesia, as well as cooperate to develop joint educational programmes and courses.

HSE University is also cooperating with the Bandung Institute of Technology, one of Indonesia’s leading technical universities. The universities are developing joint educational courses and working on mobility programmes for students and lecturers. Another of HSE University’s Indonesian partners is National Resilience Institute, which trains the country’s civil servants.

Many of HSE University-St Petersburg’s industrial partners are see Indonesia as a promising entry point into Asia. As such, cooperation between our two countries—including in education and technology exchange—will be strengthened.’

As part of the trip to the Asia-Pacific region, the HSE University delegation also visited Mahidol University in Thailand. The parties agreed on new forms of cooperation: in addition to research and student exchanges in the fields of sociology and political science, the universities agreed to develop cooperation in media communications, business and economics, and applied mathematics and computer science.
