'This Collaboration Will Broaden the Scope of Academic Partnership and Foster Stronger International Relations between Russia and India'
HSE University was the first Russian university to sign a cooperation agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). HSE University and India's leading university have forged a cooperation agreement aimed at conducting joint research and fostering academic and cultural ties. The document was signed by Anna Tyshetskaya, Director of the HSE Campus in St Petersburg, and the head of IIT Bombay, Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri.
The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), one India's best and oldest universities, was established in 1958 and designated an 'Institute of National Importance' by Parliament in 1961. In 2018, IIT Bombay was declared an Institution of Eminence by the Indian Ministry of Education. It has been ranked 1st in India in the QS World University Rankings and 2nd in NIRF 2023 (National Institutional Ranking Framework) in Engineering (Research and Teaching).
IIT Bombay is one in the group of 15 autonomous engineering institutes in India. The university specialises in providing education in engineering and computer science while also offering programmes in the arts and humanities.
In accordance with the signed document, the universities have announced the launch of a new joint Master's programme in data analysis and sociology. During the meeting, they also discussed strategies for conducting joint research in areas such as physics, cosmonautics, computer science, microelectronics, urban studies, economics, and humanities. In the near future, the parties are planning joint summer schools for students. Furthermore, HSE University will extend invitations to professors from IIT Bombay to deliver lectures, reciprocated by invitations from the Indian university to professors from HSE University.

Primarily, plans are underway to broaden collaboration in fields of science related to the advancement of modern technologies, such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and microelectronics. I am confident that this collaboration will broaden the scope of academic partnership, bolstering both universities' standing in international rankings and fostering stronger international relations between Russia and India.'
Subhasis Chaudhuri, the head of IIT Bombay, pointed out that Russia and India have long been connected by a strong bond of friendship and thriving business partnerships, particularly in the sphere of education.

'My colleagues and I have visited Russia on multiple occasions and developed warm and friendly relations with the country and its people. Many of our professors have visited Russia, and Russian professors have regularly visited our institute as well. Currently, we are engaged in systematic collaboration with HSE University to cultivate joint scientific and educational initiatives and train highly skilled professionals for both our countries.'
HSE University in St Petersburg has been appointed coordinator of cooperation between the entire HSE University and the largest universities in India. In the framework of this cooperation, a partnership agreement was signed last week by HSE University Rector Nikita Anisimov with the University of Delhi. The signing of these agreements has become an important stage in the consistent engagement of HSE University in St Petersburg with India since 2022.

The HSE Online Campus hosted a two-day international U4U (Universities for Universities) seminar, which traditionally serves as a platform for exchanging expertise in online learning. This year, the event has reached a global scale, attracting international experts and representatives of universities from around the world. Together, they discussed key challenges and strategies for the development of online education. The online meeting was held in mid-November.
