Igor Agamirzyan to Become Vice President of HSE

The Vice President's responsibilities include working on the development strategy for the HSE's innovative ecosystem, building relationships with the technology industry, and creating mechanisms of feedback from employers which will be used in adjusting the competency requirements for university graduates.

There is now a new position at the Higher School of Economics – Vice President. It will be occupied by Igor Agamirzyan, who was previously CEO and chairman of the board at RVC OJSC.

The incumbent Vice President, Igor Agamirzyan, will be responsible for the development strategy of the HSE's innovative ecosystem, building relationships with the technology industry, and creating mechanisms of feedback from employers which will be used in adjusting the competency requirements of the university graduates, as well as other activities related to entrepreneurship and information technology.

‘RVK was recently actively working on the issue of the role of universities as a key element in developing the innovation ecosystem in the new economy’s technological and organizational structure. I have a certain understanding of the problems in how the academic environment operates, and the challenges facing the academic community. Working at HSE, one of Russia’s leading universities, where I have long-term academic ties and a positive history of cooperation, is an opportunity to put into practice my ideas on creating an industrial ecosystem around a developing university and to found an expert centre for developing innovation and the new economy in our country’, Igor Agamirzyan stated.

‘I hope that with Igor Agamirzyan joining our team, our university can develop a serious and active interface for cooperation with Russian innovation business’, HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov noted, ‘As a result, this will help us keep the competencies offered to HSE students up-to-date, as well as enabling us to form student teams to carry out real work for business clients’.

‘Igor Agamirzyan will certainly strengthen our team, since he is one of the leading experts in innovation, renowned both in Russia and abroad’, said Leonid Gokhberg, First Vice Rector of HSE, ‘In addition to that, along with considerable managerial and business experience at such a successful development institution as RVK, he also has a serious academic background’.

Igor Agamirzyan’s biography

Igor Agamirzyan holds an academic degree of Candidate of Physics and Mathematical Sciences (1986). He is a leading expert in computer and information technology, venture investment, and innovation technology entrepreneurship.

Igor Agamirzyan graduated in Applied Mathematics from Leningrad State University, Department of Mathematics and Mechanics, in 1979.

From 1995 to 2007, he worked on various positions at Microsoft offices in Great Britain, Central and Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.

From 2007 – 2009, he was CEO at the Software Development Centre, EMC Corporation, in St. Petersburg.

From April 2009 to June 2016 Igor Agamirzyan was CEO and chairman of the board at RVC.

Igor Agamirzyan has authored over 25 research papers on the issues of the information society and the computer business.
