On November 29th Howard Davies, Director of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), gave a public lecture at the HSE cultural center on ‘Europe — the lost continent?’. The meeting was organized by the HSE International College of Economics and Finance.
On November 15 Daniel Treisman, Professor of Political Science at the University of California, gave a lecture on ‘Topical Problems of Teaching and Research in Political Economy’. One of the leading political scientists in the world, Professor Treisman arrived in Moscow as an expert member of the International Advisory Committee for the HSE’s Programme of Development as a National Research University. On November 9th the Russian Ministry of Education and Science officially announced that the HSE and the George Mason University, among others, were winners of a contest organized in 2010 as part of the joint Russian-American university programme. This autumn a delegation from the U.S. Department of Education visited the HSE to discuss the prospects for cooperation. On October 29th the results of the open public competition of the Ministry of Education and Science for financial support of research conducted under supervision of leading scientists in Russian universities were announced. Fedor Bogomolov, Professor of Mathematics at the New York University, and Ronald Inglehart, Professor at the University of Michigan Center for Political Studies, will both receive grants for research work at the HSE.
On October 28th and 29th, the French-Russian Scientific Conference ‘Economy, Politics, Society: New Challenges and Opportunities’ took place at the Higher School of Economics and brought together 250 Russian and 150 French participants. The forum was the largest scientific meeting in the history of French-Russian relations.
