Comprehensive Approach to Security

On June 3rd Jayantha Dhanapala, the President of the international Pugwash Movement, gave a lecture at the HSE. His speech was dedicated to the prospects of concluding new agreements on nuclear weapons, but he also commented on the main problems of international security today.

Two-stage Higher Education Looms Large

In Russia according to changes in the Federal Law on Education approved two years ago and coming into effect with the start of the new academic year,  the majority of universities will be enrolling students into Bachelor's and Master's programs instead of traditional five-year courses . On May 24th the first independently organized TED conference in Russia was held at the HSE. The conference was supported by the “Business in RU Style” club and the HSE Business Incubator.

US-Russia Cooperation Road Map

John Beyrle, the US Ambassador to the Russian Federation, lectured on the US-Russia bilateral relations at the HSE. Answering some queries he sketched common ground for US-Russia cooperation strengthening. In his speech the US Ambassador focused on the "Four I`s" doctrine that is promoted by the Russian President D. Medvedev.

M. Gilman, the HSE professor, is among observers who weigh up chances of Russian ruble  as a leading regional reserve currency.

Does Russian banking face troubles?

While some economists suggest that bankers may be exaggerating the problems in order to win more cheap state funding, most agree that bad loans are set to surge. Y.Gavrilenkov, the HSE expert, mentiones some aspects of the problem.

A project entitled "Morality and Trust in Old and New Market Economies" has been running since 2007 as a joint research teaching activity included in the MA Program of Applied Social Research of Markets (head - Prof. V. Radaev) at the Higher School of Economics and the Research Institute for Sociology, University of Cologne, Germany.

Building educational market space

On April 21, the session of the Russian Public Council for Education Development was held at the Lomonosov State University. The "Anti-monopoly policy in Education through the Federal Anti-monopoly Service of Russia (the FAS) vision" was under discussion.
