applications were submitted by young entrepreneurs for the annual HSE Business Incubator ‘Startup of the Year’ prize.

The ‘Startup of the Year’ competition, which is taking place for the seventh time, is designed to encourage interesting and effective entrepreneurial solutions and inspire beginning business professionals to make new achievements.

Winners over the years have been LinguaLeo, an interactive service; Knopka Zhizni (‘Life Button’), Russia's first emergency call system; Groupon Russia (Darberry); QuoteRoller, a service to create and send business proposals; Jelastic, a new generation cloud platform; and many others.

By the end of the week, the jury, consisting of successful entrepreneurs, private investors, investment funds and well-known companies, will form a short list of nominees that will include the 3-4 best projects in each of the six categories:

- Best hardware startup  a company building a business based on the most promising technologies and received significant competitive advantages as a result

- Best internet startup  a company that only works online

- Socially significant startup  a company whose business aims to solve social problems

- Global startup  a company operating in markets outside of Russia

- Team of the Year  a startup which, in the opinion of the jury, brought together the best team that successfully led projects in 2014

- Best fintech startup  a company whose activities are related to developing financial services

The awards ceremony will take place on December 17 at Technopolis Moscow.

The UBI Awards Ceremony was held on February 22 at the World Incubation Summit at Ryerson University, Toronto. HSE’s Business Incubator has entered the ranking for the second in a row. In 2015, it was ranked 14th in the category ‘best business incubator managed by a university’ among more than 100.
