HSE Student Among Four Winners of Fred Perry Contest
Polina Parygina, a 4th-year student at HSE’s School of Art and Design majoring in Communication Design, is one of four illustrators selected worldwide by the famous clothes brand Fred Perry for the international Record Store Day 2019. In honor of the holiday, music stores around the world are distributing satchels bearing graphic illustrations designed by her.
‘One of the illustrations was about new subcultures, so I used the rapper Husky as a representative figure personifying a new generation that is anxious and rebellious,’ says Polina Parygina.
The Fred Perry brand has close ties with music and music subcultures. Record stores play a large role in supporting music subcultures, providing a meeting space for collectors and music fans and keeping the music ‘real’.
On April 13, the first 20 customers who came to support local vinyl stores on Record Store Day received a bag as a gift with their purchase. In Moscow, the participating record store was DiG Record Store.

HSE students are invited to participate in a design competition in which a series of three illustrations will be selected. Submissions will be accepted until May 22. The winning patch projects will be set in the form of stripes on adidas bomber jackets. The author of the best work will travel to the head office of adidas in Germany.
From March 8th to April 7th, 2019 HSE ART GALLERY is hosting a large-scale exhibition on the topic of Women Who Change the World. This joint project by HSE ART GALLERY and LEVI`S® has given HSE Art and Design School students the opportunity to realize their ideas on this important theme.
On May 17 and 18, 2019 the HSE Faculty of Communications, Media and Design is organizing its second annual Telling Stories festival. The event attracts renowned film directors, producers, photographers, curators of international projects, and trend-setting designers.
On March 20, a conference for HSE staff and students will take place at HSE. It will consider the university’s development programme and elect the new Academic Council. The previous conference took place five years ago, in 2014, and the university has changed a lot since then. On the 250th anniversary of the birth of Russian writer Ivan Krylov, third-year students of the programme ‘Animation and illustration’ (supervised by Elena Kitaeva) of HSE School of Art and Design revamped and gave new meanings and forms to the works of the writer. They prepared 10 short animated films based on his fables that will be aired on the TV channel ‘Culture’ (‘Kultura’) throughout the week.
Sound artist Robert Elias Stokowy of Berlin and Yulia Chernenko,lecturer at the HSE Faculty of Communications, Media, and Design, have initiated a joint German-Russian artistic research project entitled, ‘Phenomenology of Darkness’.
The HSE Art and Design School is pleased to announce new English-language undergraduate programmes in Communication Design and Environmental Design. International applicants are invited to apply for the 2019-2020 academic year.
On November 30, a new exhibition opened at Belyayevo Gallery called Collective Belyayevo, featuring works by sophomores from the Photography in Fashion and Advertising bachelor’s programme of the HSE School of Art and Design.
The Moscow metro has launched a big educational project ‘Hello, Moscow!’ (Priviet, Moskva!). This will turn the Moscow transport system into a ‘guide’, telling the passengers about the city in various contexts, and making the everyday commute a more useful and interesting journey. The project creators include HSE staff and alumna.
A project by Zlata Sapko and Marina Aleksashina, third-year students of the programme in Fashion, won a competition organized by Hermès and the HSE School of Art and Design. The presentation of the project took place in GUM.
