Society news at HSE University

We’re not indifferent, we won’t walk past someone in trouble – that’s the motto of the student charity “ICEF Outreach”. It was set up by a group of enthusiasts at ICEF a few years ago and since then has grown to bring together dozens of people across all the faculties of HSE. Chief coordinator of the project Anastasia Fedorova, told us about their most recent activities and trips to orphanages.

The list of members of the Expert Council under the RF Government has been approved. Its 200 members include staff from the Higher School of Economics.

Yaroslav Kuzminov, Rector of the Higher School of Economics, has been awarded the order ‘For Merit for the Fatherland’, 4th class, by the President of Russia.

On May 25^th Michael McFaul, US Ambassador in Russia, professor at Stanford University, gave an open lecture to the students of the Higher School of Economics.

On May 15^th 2011, a meeting with Lanny Breuer, Assistant Attorney General of the United States, and Loretta Lynch, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, took place at the HSE. The event was organized by the HSE together with the Transparency International Russia Center for Anti-Corruption Research and Initiatives and the Moscow Compliance Club.

On May 3^rd and 4^th 2011, the annual meeting of the Association of Russian Holders of Scholarships from the Chancellor of Germany and an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation seminar. It included a presentation of projects by 2012 scholarship holders.

The Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, has awarded honours to some researchers from the Higher School of Economics for their work on the Strategy 2020 expert groups, including organization of the groups, the preparation of suggestions on topical issues for Russian socio-economic strategy up to 2020 and their personal input into the expert and analytical work

Filipp Bykov, lecturer at the HSE Faculty of Economics Department of Higher Mathematics, has been awarded a medal by the Russian Academy of Sciences.
