The Human Capital Interdisciplinary Research Centre (HCIRC) is a world-class research centre comprising a consortium of HSE University, RANEPA, MGIMO University, and the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). Its work was highly rated by the RAS in 2021. Lilia Ovcharova, HSE University Vice Rector and initiator of the centre’s creation, talked to the HSE News Service about integration in international studies on active ageing, creating a database on development trends in human potential, studying the effects of digitalisation, and the centre’s priority activities for the future.

HSE University and Rosbank have signed a cooperation agreement in education and research. The parties plan to jointly implement HSE University’s new, English-taught Master’s in Environmental Economics and Sustainable Development

Through its Mirror Laboratories project, HSE University develops collaborations with academic institutions across the country. Today, it includes 22 ongoing projects in partnership with 20 universities in mathematics, computer science, economics, sociology, biology, history and many other fields. Marina Litvintseva, Director for Advanced Research at HSE University, coordinates international and mirror laboratory projects. In this year’s second issue of HSE LooK, she talked about the development of mirror laboratories and the future of the project.

HSE University will develop and strengthen its cooperation with leading Indonesian universities. HSE Vice Rector Victoria Panova visited the largest island state in the world and held talks with the administration of four leading institutions.

HSE University employs highly qualified French language specialists, and the number of educational programmes that involve studying French is increasing every year. The number of students wishing to study both the French language and French culture is growing as well. The partnership agreement between HSE University-Nizhny Novgorod and Alliance Française Nizhny Novgorod, a cultural and educational non-profit organisation, marks the beginning of a new stage of the existing partnership.

HSE University in Moscow held the ‘30 Years Together’ International Partners’ Week. Embassy and university representatives from Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan attended the opening meeting. Representatives of HSE campuses in Perm, Nizhny Novgorod, and St. Petersburg also took part in the event.

In recent years, HSE University has focused on launching double-degree bachelor's and master's programmes jointly with other Russian universities. To date, students have enrolled in seven such programmes, and several more will start in the new academic year. Sergey Roshchin, HSE University Vice Rector, explains how university cooperation works, which fields and regions are a priority for the university, and what prospects graduates will have.

In May 2022, Prof. Eduardo Pontual Ribeiro from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, conducted an online master class for early-career researchers at HSE University on ‘Research in Economics of Multi-Sided Platforms’, which included feedback on research papers on the topic. The HSE News Service talked to Prof. Ribeiro and Prof. Svetlana Golovanova, who organised the event on behalf of HSE University, about this format of academic cooperation.
