Alexander Tarasov is the Head of the Department of Theoretical Economics at the Faculty of Economic Sciences (FES) and Leading Research Fellow at the Centre for Market Studies and Spatial Economics at HSE University-St Petersburg. In his interview, Alexander talks about the appeal of academia, the challenges that await graduate students, and his research into the impact of railroads on economic growth, affirmative action in university admissions, and much more.
Sergey Stepanov is an Associate Professor at ICEF and the School of Finance. He is also the Academic Supervisor of the HSE/NES Programme in Economics, a joint programme that teaches students fundamental knowledge of economics, modern methods of economic analysis, and mathematical methods for solving economic tasks. The traditional EconomFest gathered students, staff, applicants, and friends of the Faculty of Economic Sciences in the HSE University building on Pokrovsky Bulvar. The event programme featured tours, contests, and treats alongside anti-lectures, networking, and congratulations from the faculty’s administration. 'To Become a Sought-After Specialist, It Is Necessary to Study Political Science and International Relations Together'
'Political Science and World Politics' is an English-taught Bachelor's programme which offers subjects in both political science and international relations. Students gain knowledge and skills which will help them to develop in various career directions ranging from state service to business. The results of the Russian part of the Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students' Survey (GUESSS 2021) have been published. It found that Russian students show interest in entrepreneurship more often and think about starting their own business five years after graduation. Galina Shirokova, Professor at the School of Economics and Management, Director of the Centre for Strategic Entrepreneurship, told us about other trends in the sphere of entrepreneurship.

On November 1st-3rd, 2022 the International Laboratory of Stochastic Algorithms and High-Dimensional Inference of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science and the Laboratory of Methods for Big Data Analysis with the support of HSE AI Centre and the Russian Science Foundation organized the first autumn school and conference on artificial intelligence ‘Fall into ML’. The new format of the event included a school for students and young researchers.
