The HSE and Cornell Institute for Public Affairs ( CIPA), USA had undertaken a joint project Russia in 2012-2013. Graduate students in the CIPA project had the option of building upon and expanding their experience through consultancy projects conducted through CIPA’S International Capstone Initiative. The international team of students and professors had been working in HSE N. Novgorod on Vyksa Renewal Plan. Vyksa is the small town not far from N. Novgorod. The project was implemented with support of the HSE Graduate School of Education. Laurie J.Miller, professor and CIPA Coordinator gave a special interview to the HSE news service about the project.

Timothy Frye, Marshall D. Shulman Professor of Post-Soviet Foreign Policy, Department of Political Science and Harriman Institute of Columbia University, USA and Director of Center for the Study of Institutions and Development, HSE, Russia gave a special interview to HSE news service prior the conference.

On October 10^th, 2012, a new research into ‘The Economy of Runet 2011-2012’ was presented at the Ria Novosti press centre in Moscow. Together with experts from different institutions, staff of the HSE participated in developing the methodology and implementation of the project. The research provides an in-depth report into the state of the of the internet economy, the dynamics of its development, structure and areas of growth and the obstacles it is facing.

On July 22nd an information day dedicated to the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme for research and technology development took place at the HSE. Anna Pikalova, Director of the HSE International Centre for the Promotion of Mobility of Researchers, Students and Postgraduates, told us about the HSE’s participation in this programme and particularly about the creation of a Russian-European information portal as part of FP7.

John Nye, Professor at George Mason University (USA), who has recently become the Academic Supervisor of the HSE’s International Laboratory for Institutional Analysis of Economic Reforms, told us about his view of the laboratory’s activity.

On October 29^th the results of the open public competition of the Ministry of Education and Science for financial support of research conducted under supervision of leading scientists in Russian universities were announced. Fedor Bogomolov, Professor of Mathematics at the New York University, and Ronald Inglehart, Professor at the University of Michigan Center for Political Studies, will both receive grants for research work at the HSE.

On September 17^tha delegation from the University of Lancaster, Great Britain, visited the Higher School of Economics. At a series of meetings, the guests learnt more about the HSE’s activities, and were involved in negotiations regarding possible areas of cooperation between the two universities.

On September 17^th the International Research and Educational Laboratory of Financial Economics opened at the HSE. It was founded by the HSE International College of Economics and Finance together with the London School of Economics and Political Sciences.
