Economic Development and Growth Research Group

The Research and Study Group has completed its work.

The Development and Growth Economics Study Group was established in 2017 and specialized in analyzing the sources of long-term economic growth from a cross-country perspective.

The group studied the effects of centralized economic regulation on the long-term economic development of planned economies.

The information base included previously unpublished data from historical statistics on the factors of production and inter-sectoral interactions of the USSR and the former Soviet republics, as well as data from the Russia KLEMS project.

The group's partners in providing data were The Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) and the CIS Statistical Committee.

The practical application of the results has two directions:

- The experience of the half-century development of the Russian economy and cross-country comparisons at the level of individual industries can be used to develop measures to stimulate the long-term growth of the Russian economy.

- The results for the post-Soviet republics can be used to design assistance programs for developing and post-transition economies, as well as development programs for Russian regions.

This work was carried out within the framework of the project 17-05-0035 "Long-term economic growth and structural changes in the USSR and CIS since 1960" of the Research Foundation of HSE University.
