Mikhail Dolbilov's report "Political Loyalty in the Russian Empire – Allegiance or Loyalty? A Case of Peoples' Panegyrics to a Monarch (1861-1884)"

On March 21, 2017, Mikhail Dolbilov, associate professor at Maryland University (USA), reported on "Political Loyalty in the Russian Empire – Allegiance or Loyalty? A Case of Peoples' Panegyrics to a Monarch (1861-1884)." Using cultural and political history, as well as the history of emotions, Dolbilov focused on the ways in which political loyalty in the Russian Empire was maintained, negotiated, expressed, and experienced.

A New Paper by Elena Vishlenkova

The paper "The State of Health: Balancing Power, Resources, and Expertise and the Birth of the Medical Profession in the Russian Empire" by Elena Vishlenova, deputy director of IGITI, has been published in the 3rd issue of "Ab Imperio" of 2016. The paper focuses on shaping medical profession in Russia, which took place in the first third of the nineteenth century. 

A New Review of the IGITI's Book "The Community of Russian Professors"

A new review of the book "The Community of Russian Professors" ("Soslovie Russkih Professorov") was published in the 6th volume of "Jahrbücher für Geschichte Osteuropas" (2016). The book was prepared by IGITI's research fellows and their colleagues from Russia and Europe, and published at HSE in 2013.

Studying Medicine in the Humanities

At the most recent Andrey Poletayev Memorial Readings held by the Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities (IGITI), participants discussed the relationship between the natural sciences and the social sciences. HSE Professor Elena Vishlenkova tells us why scholars in the humanities are interested in the natural sciences and what contribution they can make to this field.

On September 9, 2016, VI Poletayev Memorial Readings entitled "Natual Sciences and Humanities: New Interaction (Dis)Order" were held at the Higher School of Economics. Among the participants were two guest speakers: Karl Hall from Central European University (Budapest) and Kornelius Borck from Lübeck University (Lübeck).

A New Reveiew of IGITI books by Michael Gordin

Michael Gordin, professor of Prinston University, has published a new review of the books Russkie Professora (Russian Professors) by Elena Vishlenkova, Rufia Galiullina, and Kira Ilyina, as well as Soslovie Russkih Professorov (The Community of Russian Professors) by Elena Vishkenkova and Irina Savelieva (eds.) in the scholarly journal Kritika: Exploration in Russian and Eurasian History. We are very grateful to professor Gordin for the detailed analysis of our work.

New Tenured Professors at HSE

On April 29, 2016 at the Academic Council meeting 25 HSE Professors were conferred the status of Tenured Professor.
