Open Air for Aspiring Experts in International Affairs: Internships in Africa, Mobility in Brazil
In early July, the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs (WEIA) on Malaya Ordynka hosted the annual Open Air Festival of its bachelor's programmes. In a relaxed atmosphere of the inner courtyard, guests interacted with WEIA administrators, faculty members, students, and graduates. Chinese characters and ice cream, origami and photo sessions, Portuguese desserts and Korean souvenirs, Turkish sweets, and African stickers were just a fraction of what guests could taste, enjoy, or win in quizzes testing their knowledge of the world.
The XI Russian-Chinese Summer School on International Relations Kicks Off at HSE University
On July 1, 2024, the opening ceremony of the XI International Russian-Chinese Summer School on International Relations, titled ‘Partnership and Cooperation in the New World Order,’ took place. The event was organised by the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs in collaboration with HSE Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies (CCEIS). Graduate and postgraduate students from various countries have come to Moscow to study international relations and collectively envision a new world order.

Charming East: HSE University Hosts Anniversary Oriental Crazy Day 2024
At the end of May, HSE University hosted the traditional Oriental Crazy Day. This year the holiday was held for the tenth time. For students, this is an opportunity to show their talents on stage, take part in fortune-telling with the Book of Changes, and learn more about the diversity of Asian cultures as well as the bachelor’s programme ‘Asian and African Studies.’
HSE University and Top Chinese Universities: Partnership Based on Mutual Respect and Trust
In mid-April 2024 representatives of several leading universities in China visited HSE University in Moscow. A delegation from Dalian University of Foreign Languages (DUFL), led by Rector Liu Hong, came to sign a cooperation and exchange agreement, while representatives of Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), led by Board Member and Vice President Chao Qiuling, discussed expanding potential areas of interaction within the existing cooperation and exchange agreement.
Students of HSE and SFedU Double Degree Programme Visit Their Second Alma Mater
Since 2022, HSE University and the Southern Federal University (SFedU) have been implementing a joint bachelor's programme ‘The Caucasus and the Middle East in the System of Regional and International Relations.’ Education takes place in Rostov-on-Don, with HSE professors mostly involved in the process remotely. In late April 2024, some of the top students from the programme were invited for a week to HSE University, where they participated in various educational and scientific events.

‘There Are Many Directions in Which We Can Develop Our Relations with Iran’
On February 12, an official signing ceremony was held for an agreement on the free transfer of literature published by the Organisation for Researching and Composing University Textbooks in the Islamic Sciences and the Humanities under the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of the Islamic Republic of Iran (SAMT) to HSE University. The event took place in the HSE University library on Pokrovsky Bulvar.
Participants of the V International Conference “The World Majority in New Realities: the Regional Dimension” are discussing issues related to the Global South
On December 1st, the concluding session of the conference titled “The Global South in New Geopolitical Realities” took place. Dr. A.B. Likhacheva, Dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at HSE University, delivered the Plenary Report titled “The Development Imperative of the Global South in a Multi-Crisis Environment”. She emphasized the significance of trust as a crucial component of collaboration, highlighting that the absence of trust can be attributed to negative experiences or the lack of positive ones. Another issue, as per the speaker's perspective, is that the old system no longer fosters the development of the Global South. To address this, there is a need for a redistribution of networks, the creation of new logistics, standards, hubs, and exchanges. Dr. A.B. Likhacheva underscored that despite the challenges in establishing this new mechanism, there is no alternative since the absence of development poses a threat.
HSE University and EEC Launch Third EAEU Research Exchange
The exchange will take place from September 18 to October 18, 2023, with the participation of ten experts from EAEU member states. The purpose of the exchange is to strengthen soft skills, as well as to enable experts and professionals to acquire systemic knowledge of the development features of the economic, institutional and strategic aspects of Eurasian integration.The third EAEU Research Exchange is organised by the HSE University Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs in partnership with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

HSE University and ICCA RAS Launch Russia’s First Intensive Student Workshop on Collaboration with China
In late April, the official opening ceremony of Russia’s first intensive student workshop ‘Chinese Perspective’, organised jointly by the HSE University Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs (WEIA), the Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies, and the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ICCA RAS), took place. The intensive course will allow students to explore Chinese business culture and acquire the skills to work and do business in China.
Wushu, Tekken and Fortune-telling by the Book of Changes: Lunar New Year Celebrated at HSE University
This New Year, according to the Asian calendar, arrived on January 22nd. On this day, HSE Cultural Centre brought together Chinese, Korean, and Japanese cultures. To the sounds of Asian songs and Korean drums, the guests tried their hand at calligraphy, studied jianzhi and origami, played Ttakji and Go, ate traditional cookies and expelled evil spirits. The Lunar New Year at the university was organized by the School of Asian Studies and the HSE Chinese Club.

On December 15 2022, HSE Center for African Studies in partnership with the company Innopraktika held the round table « Russia-Africa: Digital Transformation of Public Administration » and presented there the concept of the e-Governance Knowledge Sharing Hub for Africa. Without this, Russian businesses will not be able to work there effectively. Japanese Theatre, Dance and Calligraphy at Oriental Crazy Day 2022
Oriental Crazy Day is a traditional festival of the School of Asian Studies, which has been held at HSE University for eight years. This time, Asian Studies students taught guests Chinese calligraphy, Arabic script, Yemeni dancing and origami. They were also introduced to kabuki theatre and traditional Japanese drums.

Pivot to the East: A Comprehensive Study of the Cultural and Civilisational Centres of the Non-Western World is the Top Priority
China and the Chinese world, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Arab countries, Iran, Turkey, Central Asia and Africa are gaining new significance in Russia’s foreign policy. However, we do not know enough about the Eastern countries. It is necessary to change the priorities in education, starting from grammar school. Prospects for the development of domestic Oriental studies in the context of the new stage in the development of the system of international relations were discussed at a round table at HSE University.

There is major potential for economic and humanitarian cooperation between Russia and African countries. On Wednesday, 15 December 2021, The Department of International Relations and International Laboratory on World Order Studies and the New Regionalism of National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE University) heldthe thirtieth session of Eurasian Online Seminarin the form of discussion panel. The topic for discussion was the presentation of the Special Issue of the Russian Politics journal (Volume 6 (2021): Issue 4 (Oct 2021) on Russian Foreign Policy, edited by Iain Ferguson, Andrej Krickovic, Alexander Lukin and Richard Sakwa.
Important changes in the CCEIS
The CCEIS is happy to share some crucial news. Director of the CCEIS Anastasia Likhacheva has been appointed Dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs of the Higher School of Economics. Vasily Kashin is now the new director of the CCEIS. He is a leading Sinologist, an expert on military-strategic issues, the former deputy director of the CCEIS, and the head of the sector of international military-political and military-economic issues. At the CCEIS, Vasily Kashin was in charge of multiple applied research projects. He also led a team of employees and postdocs, which launched a series of regular monitoring sessions on various aspects of China's development.

A joint seminar organised by CCEIS and RAS Far East Institute named ‘Far East in the kaleidoscope of development projects of XX-XXI centuries’ took place on 25th May.The seminar was opened with an introductory word from Anastasia Likhacheva, NRU HSE CCEIS Director.Presentations were provided by researchers of the RAS Institute of History, Archaeology, and Ethnology of the Peoples of the Far-East.

On May 29, 2020, the Higher School of Economics in cooperation with the Integration club under the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation held an online roundtable discussion “Searching for a new multipolarity architecture: international cooperation of the EAEU”. The event is included in the official distributed programme of the XXI April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development. During the round table, an expert report was presented, in which the staff of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies, Higher School of Economics took part: T. Bordachev, A.B.
