Session “Modern Regional Studies: Methodological Issues” of the 5th International Conference “The World Majority in New Realities: the Regional Dimension”

The section was held on November 30, 2023. It focused on building a conceptual framework for regional studies as a separate scientific direction.

‘ASEAN Is the World’s Fifth Largest Economy’

HSE University’s Online Campus has presented the new English-language course ‘The Digital Transformation of Business Practices in Southeast Asia’ on the National Open Education Platform. The online course by Evgeny Kanaev, one of the leading regional scientists and professor at HSE University’s Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, examines the features of business practices in Southeast Asia and the impact of digital transformation on them.

The monograph Regions in the Contemporary World: the Global Turbulence and Its Impact on Asia edited by the WEIR faculty has been published

In January 2022, the collective monograph entitled Regions in the Contemporary World: the Global Turbulence and Its Impact on Asia / Ed. by E. Kanaev, S. Luzyanin, A. Baklanov, V. Vishnyakovawas published. The monograph is an outcome of the II International Conference “East and West in the New Transformation Phase: Asia Encountering the Challenges of Deglobalization”, organized by the World Economy and International Affairs faculty, HSE University, on December 16-17, 2020. It is the second issue of the book from the “Regions in the Contemporary World” series (the first monograph entitled Regions in the Contemporary World: Globalization and Asia (in Russian) was published in 2020. It demonstrates that conferences on regional studies with outcomes as academic monographs are held regularly at the World Economy and International Affairs faculty

On November 2, 2021 the School of International Regional Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, HSE University within the framework of the permanent online seminars «Contemporary Area Studies», organized a meeting with Maxim Smirnov, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of International Regional Studies, Political Science and Eastern Philosophy, Chelyabinsk State University; Chairman of the Chelyabinsk Department of the Interregional Public Organization "Association of Japanese Studies"; member of the Expert Council for the State Religious Expertise at the Department of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation in the Chelyabinsk Region. The topic was «Contemporary International Regional Studies».

The School of International Regional Studies congratulates the authors of the research paper entitled “How Does the Digitalization Shape Doing Business? Evidence from the Asia-Pacific Region”.

The paper is the outcome of the student research project “Doing Business in Asia-Pacific in the Age of Digital Transformations” (2020/21 academic year). The research was carried out at the School of International Regional Studies under the supervision of the SIRS professor Evgeny Kanaev.
On September 4, 2021, the paper was presented at the Eastern Economic Forum.

Regional Studies: development of effective algorithms for Promoting Russia's interests abroad

On March, 17, 2021 the School of International Regional Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, HSE University, within the framework of the permanent online seminar «Contemporary area studies», organized the meeting with Vera Vishnyakova, Head of the School of International Regional Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, HSE University and with Deputy Head of the School of International Regional Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, HSE University - Evgeny Kanaev.

School of International Regional Studies congratulates Pavel Shaternikov, 1st year student of the Master’s Program “International Relations: European and Asian Studies”, and Ekaterina Vaseneva, 4th year student of the Bachelor’s Program “Asian and African Studies”, on the article entitled “The ASEAN Economic Community in the Priorities of Japanese Business: the Role of Singapore as a Point of Market Entry”. The article has been published in the bi-lingual academic journal “Southeast Asia: Actual Problems of Development” which is included in the HSE University List of Highly Ranked Journals (“The White List”).

East and West in the New Transformation Phase: Asia Encountering the Challenges of Globalization

On December 16-17, 2020, experts, diplomats, regional and oriental scholars from 36 countries and six regions of Russia met on the virtual platform of the Higher School of Economics to discuss new trends of regionalization and de-globalization in the world development. These trends were vividly manifested in Asia during the last year - the period of extraordinary upheaval caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

SIRS Professor Evgeny Kanaev Delivered a Guest Lecture to Young Diplomats from Asia-Pacific Countries

On October 22, at the invitation of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in the Russian Federation (accredited to the Republic of Belarus), Evgeny Kanaev, Professor of School of International Regional Studies, delivered a guest lecture to young diplomats from the embassies of the Asia-Pacific countries, as well as to young Russian experts.

On November 20-21, a discussion of the main political and socio-economic trends in Southeast Asia was held as part of the first international conference "Globalization in Contemporary Asia".
