Researchers Present an Outlook for the Russian Arctic
The Russian Arctic should be better connected – economically and logistically – to the country's other regions, according to researchers of the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs. If Arctic projects are to develop further, they must be supported by stronger horizontal connections involving regional authorities, civil society organisations, the expert community, and the indigenous peoples of the North. The study is published in Regional Research of Russia.
Climate Change: Big Challenges for the Global Economy
Participants of the discussion ‘Trading in Allowances for GhG Emissions at Sub-national Level: Ways to Use International Best Practices in Russia’ analysed how the emissions trading system will work and what place nuclear power will occupy in the carbon-free world. The event was held as part of the session ‘Problems of Decarbonization of the World Economy’ of the XXIII Yasin (April) International Academic Conference.
Meeting of the HSE Bulgarian Club with Martin Vladimirov
On Thursday, March 10, 2022, the HSE Bulgarian Club together with the International Laboratory on World Order Studies and the New Regionalism and under the aegis of the Department of International Relations of the National Research University Higher School of Economics held a seminar on the topic “Towards a New European Energy and Climate Strategy: The European Green Deal as the Key Driver Forward”.
Scientific seminar ‘Far East in the kaleidoscope of development projects of XX-XXI centuries’
A joint seminar organised by CCEIS and RAS Far East Institute named ‘Far East in the kaleidoscope of development projects of XX-XXI centuries’ took place on 25th May.The seminar was opened with an introductory word from Anastasia Likhacheva, NRU HSE CCEIS Director.Presentations were provided by researchers of the RAS Institute of History, Archaeology, and Ethnology of the Peoples of the Far-East.
Report "Russia's Arctic Policy: International Aspects"
At the XXII April International Conference, the report "Russia's Arctic Policy: International Aspects", made under the leadership of Sergey Karaganov, was presented. The report was co-authored by the CCEIS staff Anastasia Likhacheva, Vasily Kashin, Dmitry Suslov, Igor Makarov and Ilya Stepanov.
Managing Climate Risk: How to Adapt Regions to Changes
An applied research project being carried out by the HSE Laboratory for Economics of Climate Change uses the example of the Chechen Republic and the mountainous areas of Krasnodar Krai to create a model of climate risk evaluation and management for Russian regions. Laboratory heads Igor Makarov and Ilya Stepanov talk about the threats presented by global climate change, about whether the pandemic will slow it down, and why a multifaceted approach is essential.
