A delegation from the HSE Graduate School of Business (GSB), consisting of Director Valery Katkalo and Deputy Director Ivan Prostakov, took part in the first Russian–Thai Investment Forum (RTIF), which was held on Phuket Island from November 26 to 28. The forum was organised by the Russian–Thai Business Council with the support of more than 30 partners.

Bangkok, October 29 – The HSE Graduate School of Business has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sasin School of Management at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand’s leading business school. The agreement focuses on joint research and educational projects in the field of management. The memorandum was signed by Valeriy Katkalo, Director of the HSE Graduate School of Business and Ian Fenwick, Director of Sasin School of Management. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Evgeny Tomikhin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Thailand.

The presentation of the annual study “Corporate Universities of Russia — 2025” took place as part of the 4th Forum of Corporate Learning Leaders of Russia. The event was held in Nizhny Novgorod and brought together more than 130 participants from 60 companies.

At the end of April, the Graduate School of Business at HSE University hosted an award ceremony celebrating the school's top students and their achievements in professional and athletic competitions. Ninety-six participants and prize-winners were awarded by Valery Katkalo, Director of the HSE Graduate School of Business.

In 2025, HSE University once again secured the top spot in the "Management" field according to the RAEX ranking agency. The university achieved the maximum score of 100 points, establishing itself as the undisputed leader among Russian universities. Over 200 representatives of leading companies and business education experts gathered at the HSE Graduate School of Business to attend the presentation of the book showcasing the results of the third wave of research on corporate universities in Russia.

The HSE Graduate School of Business held an open expert session with leading specialists from Sberbank and IT companies. "On the Way to Breakthroughs: Challenges and Opportunities of Artificial Intelligence in Business, Science, Education and Public Administration" was the theme of the meeting.

Alfa-Bank has opened the IT space, a coworking area for project and business communication among students, at the HSE Graduate School of Business. Visitors to Alfa Space can enjoy its trendy cafe, discuss fintech with experts from Alfa-Bank, prepare for seminars, and brainstorm.

On August 31, the opening ceremony of the auditorium named after Alexander Nikolaevich Dyatlov, Dean of the HSE State University’s Faculty of Management in 1995-2000, took place in the first building of Shabolovka campus. Alexander Nikolayevich started his research activities in the field of economic forecasts in the late 1980s and joined the HSE State University in 1994.

With China becoming Russia's main trade and economic partner, the development of cooperation between the two countries in the field of business education grows ever more important. To this end, a delegation of the HSE Graduate School of Business led by Director Valery Katkalo visited Shanghai.

The HSE University Graduate School of Business (GSB) has hosted the Autumn School in ESG Transformation of the Finance Sector. A total of 70 students from Russian universities passed the competitive selection process to take part. The four-day programme was devised and developed by the Central Bank of Russia. The speakers included top managers and regulatory specialists, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, VTB, Sber, Sibur, Gazprombank, Rosatom, Nornikel, VEB.RF, Rusal, and experts from HSE University.

The HSE Graduate School of Business (GSB) and the Central Bank of Russia are launching the competitive selection of participants for a partner project: the Autumn School in ESG Transformation of the Finance Sector. The Russian-language event for HSE University students will be held from September 27–30, 2022 at the Graduate School of Business campus on Shabolovka.

HSE representatives attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and contributed to many of its sessions. What technologies, approaches and strategies are relevant in this new reality we find ourselves in? HSE Rector Nikita Anisimov, HSE Academic Supervisor Yaroslav Kuzminov and other experts offered their perspectives on these issues during panel discussions.

HSE University has taken first place in four subjects in the research productivity ranking of Russian universities published by the Expert analytical centre. The university also placed in the top five in eight other subjects.

The grand opening of a new coworking area at the HSE Graduate School of Business took place in February. The 395 sq m area was renovated and equipped in line with the most recent trends in creative study areas in partnership with Accenture, one of the business school’s strategic partners.

The bachelor's programmes of the HSE Graduate School of Business in Business Administration and Marketing and Market Analytics and the English-language Master's programme of HSE ISSEK ‘Governance of Science, Technology and Innovation’ have been accredited by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). Earlier, the Master’s in Finance offered by HSE University in St. Petersburg also received accreditation in the Economics category. Having four degree programmes recognized by EFMD is an unrivalled achievement for Russian universities.

The pandemic has forced many companies to rethink their approach to charity and to change their priorities in terms of corporate social responsibility. Meeting the needs of the elderly, women, and people with disabilities is a top priority, and the social agenda is becoming a key part of HSE University’s educational programmes. These topics were discussed at the business dialogue on Corporate Social Responsibility Beyond COVID-19 hosted by the HSE Graduate School of Business.

HSE University’s administration is determined to prevent the lowering of grading standards for students’ academic performance. Teachers will be receiving new grading guidelines in the next two weeks. The proposed grading criteria will become mandatory for all courses. Other measures are planned as well. The list of such measures was discussed by the Rector’s Council on June 15.

The HSE Graduate School of Business (GSB) held its first open-air student festival, Project Fest by GSB, at Shabolovka. It was the final stage of the Student Groups Project Competition for the 2020/2021 academic year. Lectures, master classes, business games from students and business representatives, and educational and entertainment activities were also organised for all Festival visitors.

Valery Katkalo has been elected as Chairman of the Sectoral Commission on Education of the Russian Managers Association (RMA) for the second time in a row. The commission is one of the main expert platforms in Russia for discussing modern education trends and sharing experience of implementing advanced educational models.

On December 10, the Graduate School of Business held a large-scale meetup event for GSB professors, current students, alumni, corporate representatives, and anyone interested in the development of business education. Guests of ‘GSB Meetup: Welcome to the Graduate School of Business’ learned what qualities and competencies a modern manager needs, what is new at the HSE Graduate School of Business, and what the future holds for the School.

Graduate School of Business continues the series of meetings of the renewed Academic Councils of degree programmes.

The European Foundation for Management Development, a global association of leading business schools and companies, has only 18 EFMD Fellows in the world—one for each main region in which the Foundation operates. All fellows are former or present deans of the leading business schools (such as IMD, Kellogg, CEIBS, ESADE, WU Vienna, HEC Montreal, to name a few).

The HSE Graduate School of Business and Rosgeo, Russia’s largest geological exploration holding, have launched a programme in strategic planning and reorganization management, targeted at management teams of a Rosgeo subsidiary.

The session, organized by the Faculty of Business & Management on December 3, 2019, focused on methods of teaching the basic management course in HSE bachelor's programmes.

On September 20, 2019 Faculty of Business & Management organized the first seminar on preparation of Bachelor and Master programmes in Management for accreditation in accordance with EPAS quality standards of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). More than 60 participants from HSE campuses in Moscow, St Petersburg, Perm and Nizhny Novgorod attended the event.

On the second day of the conference ‘Education and World Cities 2019: New Horizons of University Reputation’ participants discussed university reputation beyond the rankings, the importance of establishing distinctiveness, as well as the role of international accreditations in the development of universities and business schools.
