Biography

The title of HSE Honorary Professor was awarded to Immanuel Wallerstein by the HSE Academic Council on May 27th, 2005.

Immanuel Wallerstein is one of the founders of the World-systems approach.

He is a distinguished professor at Yale University. From 1976 to 2005 he chaired Fernand Braudel Centre for the Study of Economies, Historical Systems, and Civilizations, Binghamton University, State University of New York, which was founded by him.

From 1994 to 1998 Immanuel Wallerstein was the President of the International Sociological Association. He is an honorary doctor of more than 50 universities worldwide and a winner of the Pitirim Sorokin Award.
