Employment history
Aleksei currently holds the position of senior researcher in public international law at the International and Comparative Law Research Center (ICLRC).
Prior to that, he was a lead expert at the WTO Expertise Center and a research assistant at the Institute of International and European Law (University of Göttingen).
Dr. Aleksei Petrenko has been an assistant to International Law Commission member Evgeny Zagaynov and has had experience in interstate litigation. While working at the university, Aleksei prepared the winning team in the international student competition ‘Dispute Resolution in the EAEU’.

On 20 March 2023, Aleksei Petrenko, Associate Professor of the School of International Law, successfully defended his doctoral thesis at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. The title of his dissertation is «The Right to Regulate in International Economic Law: Towards a General Theory with Lessons from the GATS». During the defense, Aleksei demonstrated a deep level of knowledge and research skills in his field. He presented original scientific results that received high praise from the doctoral committee.
