Masterclass with Julia Leikina "Scholarly Review and Establishing a Sub-discipline" 

On March 24, 2017, Julia Leikina, Ph.D., a research fellow at University College London, talked about how scholarly reviews can help in establishing a sub-discipline. She used the naval history of eighteenth-century Russia as an example.

On March 1, 2017, Barbara Martin, Ph.D., a historian from Geneva, reported on "'Loyal Dissident?' The Paradoxes of Social and Political Activity of Roy Medvedev (1964-1991)." 

A New Working Paper by Oleg Morozov

Oleg Morozov, junior research fellow of IGITI, published a new working paper "Wilhelm von Humboldt and Berlin University: a New Look at the Origin of the Humboldt Myth." The paper challenges the established view that the Humboldt Myth was constructed during the celebration of the centenary of Berlin University in 1910. The paper concludes that the myth originated from the works by philosopher and pedagogue Friedrich Paulsen before the centenary whose ideas were later developed by his student Eduard Spranger.

Alexander Makhov on the Workshop ‘Historical and Cultural Narratives. Rivalries and Entanglements in Eastern Europe’

From November 12th – 14th, 2015, a workshop on ‘Historical and Cultural Narratives. Rivalries and Entanglements in Eastern Europe (Russia, Ukraine and Belarus)’ took place at the University of Tübingen. The event attracted researchers from Germany, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. The workshop opened on November 12 with lectures by Irina Savelieva, IGITI Director, on ‘Professional History and Public History: Goals and Means of Historical Narratives’ and Tamara Hundorova, Professor of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine, on 'Generations in Contemporary Ukrainian Literature’. Alexander Makhov prepared a report about the event.
