A team from the Centre for Sociocultural Research won an RNF grant on the topic "Topical issues of digitalisation in Russia: socio-psychological barriers and ways to overcome them"
The project leader is A.N. Tatarko, Director of the Centre for Sociocultural Research, Doctor of Psychological Sciences. The winning project is complex and deals with the most important, from the psychological point of view, problems related to digitalisation in Russia. In recent years, digitalisation of various spheres of Russian life has been progressing at a tremendous pace. The most intensively digitalised areas are: education, public services, the financial sphere of society, and the political sphere of society. In this regard, we have proposed a project that examines the socio-psychological problems of digitalisation in the most important spheres of Russian society in order to find solutions.

The first issue of 2023 included a special issue of "Psychology. Journal of the Higher School of Economics" dedicated to the consequences of digitalization while COVID-19. The admissions campaign for the ‘Applied Social Psychology’ English-language programme of the Faculty of Social Sciences has started. From September 2022, this master’s programme, whose structure and curriculum align with those of social psychology programmes at European universities, will be delivered online.

At the Intersection of Culture and Socio-Economic Development
In its capacity as a venue for integrating Russian and international cross-cultural psychologists, the HSE Centre for Sociocultural Research has been researching the values of people in post-Soviet states and other countries for over a decade. Nadezhda Lebedeva, Director of the Centre and Professor of the Faculty of Social Sciences, speaks about the leading world researchers working at the Centre, the transmission of values among adolescents and their psychological well-being, and the connection between creativity and the acceptance of cultural differences.

18 - 21 June 2018 in Kolomna near Moscow there was the VIII Summer School "Design of Cross-Cultural Study", organized by the International laboratory for socio-cultural research, Expert Institute, Higher School of Economics. Changing Values and Identities in the Post-Communist World
This book offers a comparative analysis of value and identity changes in several post-Soviet countries. In light of the tremendous economic, social and political changes in former communist states, the authors compare the values, attitudes and identities of different generations and cultural groups. Based on extensive empirical data, using quantitative and qualitative methods to study complex social identities, this book examines how intergenerational value and identity changes are linked to socio-economic and political development. Topics include the rise of nationalist sentiments, identity formation of ethnic and religious groups and minorities, youth identity formation and intergenerational value conflicts.

International Students Invited to Apply to HSE’s Doctoral Schools
Admissions to tuition-free doctoral studies at HSE open on February 01, 2018. International students can choose from 15 PhD programmes in fields ranging from Mathematics to Art and Design. The programmes are offered at HSE campuses in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Nizhny Novgorod. It is not necessary to speak Russian in order to pursue a PhD at HSE – the thesis can be written in English. Several international students are already pursuing doctoral degrees at HSE and one of them, Keunwon Choi from South Korea, has shared his impressions with us.
