IGITI researchers' articles in a new edited volume

Articles by IGITI Research Fellows Julia Ivanova and Pavel Sokolov were published in multi-authored monograph "History and Drama. The Pan-European Tradition", edited by Joachim Küpper, Jan Mosch, and Elena Penskaya. The monograph was published by De Gruyter and is available online.

IGITI researchers have participated in the international conference "Cultural Transfer: History, Language, Society"

On May 23-25 in Tomsk, an international conference "Cultural Transfer: History, Language, Society" took place. The conference was organised by Tomsk State University and Conference of Rectors of Italian universities (CRUI) in cooperation with National Research University Higher School of Economics, National Research Novosibirsk State University, Ural Federal University, National Research Nizhniy Novgorod State University, University of Siena, University of Turin and University of Naples L’Orientale.

Julia Ivanova and Pavel Sokolov participated in a conference dedicated to the 350th anniversary of Giambattista Vico

On April 17-18 research fellows of IGITI's Center for the History of Text and Language Studies Julia Ivanova and Pavel Sokolov took part in an international conference "Vico and after: fragments of antiquity, passing of centuries, new sciences" (Vico e oltre: Frantumi di antichità, scorsa di secoli, nuove scienze). The conference was organised by the University of Eastern Piedmont Amedeo Avogadro and was dedicated to the 350th anniversary of Neapolitan philosopher Giambattista Vico (1668-1744).

Leading researchers from IGITI (Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities) have contributed to a collective monograph titled EroicaMente Vico. Medicina, vita civile e ragione poetica nel 'De Mente Heroica', which is dedicated to the legacy of Giambattista Vico.

IGITI researchers Julia Ivanova and Pavel Sokolov participated in the international workshop "Language, Foreignness, Openness: Three Disciplinary Perspectives", held in Queen Mary University of London on November 17–18. Julia Ivanova presented a paper on "Linguis loquentur novis: Plurality of Languages аs a Malediction аnd a Way to Salvation", and Pavel Sokolov has dedicated his talk to "Antonio Genovesi (1712–1769): The Study of Modern Languages as a Foundation Stone of the National Common Sense".

HSE’s Yulia Ivanova and Pavel Sokolov Present Seminars at University of Cologne

Yulia Ivanova and Pavel Sokolov, Leading Research Fellows at the HSE Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities, conducted three seminars for the students of the University of Cologne’s Slavic Department on June 27 and 28. The aim of the HSE researchers was to inform students about the relations between Rus and Italy during the Middle Ages and the early Modern period, as well as shed light on some facts of how Italian culture was perceived in Russia from the 18th through the 20th centuries.

Julia Ivanova and Pavel Sokolov participated in Premio Vico 2017. Premio Vico is an Italian annual competition among high-school students devoted to the legacy of philosopher Giambattista Vico (1668-1744). This year the theme of the competition was Vico's work "De mente heroica" (1732).

On December 20, 2016, Julia Ivanova, leading research fellow of IGITI, and Pavel Sokolov, senior research fellow of IGITI, participated in the presentation of the book "Ad populum. Parlare alla pancia: retotica del populismo in Europa / a cura di Bruno Capaci e Gluditta Spassini." 

IGITI at an International Conference in Köln

On October 7-12, 2016, the international conference "Reviving Visions: Artists and Scholars between East and West" was held at Köln University. From IGITI participated its director, Irina Savelieva, who reported on "Sociological Classics in Contemporary Historical Research: Blind Spots and Instruments" as well as research fellows, Julia Ivanova and Pavel Sokolov, who spoke on "Saint Augustin vs Roland Barthes: Teaching Christian Exegesis Today" and "Early Modern Plagiarism between Philosophy and Jurisprudence," respectively.

On October 5-8, 2016, the autumn school and international academic conference "And the Word Became Garden: Conception and Image in the History of the Landscape Culture" took place at HSE. The first day began with a presentation of Boris Sokolov's project "A Russian Poliphilus (1499-2017)", a lecture by Massimo Venturi Ferriolo "Burden of Existence: to the Idea of the Endless Landscape," and a presentation of multimedia project by Ulrich Gehmann "Ideal Spaces" (Biennale Venezia – 2016, GAAF Award – 2016).

Andrey Poletayev Memorial Readings

On September 9, 2016, VI Poletayev Memorial Readings entitled "Natual Sciences and Humanities: New Interaction (Dis)Order" were held at the Higher School of Economics. Among the participants were two guest speakers: Karl Hall from Central European University (Budapest) and Kornelius Borck from Lübeck University (Lübeck).
