Iron Egg – 2013: Best Student Extra-Curricular Projects Winners Announced

On December 4th the Artplay Centre of Design held the 10th ‘Iron Egg’ prize award ceremony for HSE students.

Competition for the prize is open to any student or group of students, or sports group involved in extra-curricular life at the university. This year the ‘Areopagus’ (jury) nominated three contenders in each of the six categories from among more than fifty entries, then all HSE students were invited to vote electronically for the winners. Besides a souvenir statuette the winners were showered with gifts from the university and from partners and sponsors of the prize.

The student prize for the best drawing done in class or in halls with a pen or pencil ‘Debut of the Year’, went to the ‘Art Parakuli’ project. ‘Sporting Achievement of the Year’ went to the Expedition to Baikal 2013 (organised by the Extreme Sports Club ). The group of students made an ascent on 2090m Cherskii peak, climbing shear cliff faces, and visited the system of caves near the crossing to Olkhon Island in temperatures that ranged between +30 and -5 degrees in one day.

‘Night Ride’ — a bike ride through night-time Moscow — was named Best Culture and Entertainment project. ‘Best Extra-Curricular Achievement of the Year’ went to one of the HSE’s biggest entertainment projects, ‘Night at the Cultural Centre 2013’, which was attended by about 1,800 students and staff.

The prize ‘Business Sphere’ was won by Case Club HSE which has been running for nearly 10 years. The club invites businessmen from leading international companies like McKinsey, Goldman Sachs and P&G to join sessions with students to solve big business cases.

The prize for the best social project went to the student charity organisation ‘Open Your Eyes’. They collected about 400,000 roubles ($16,000) and bought presents and warm things for children in the Ruzhsky psychiatric hospital and winter clothes for children at Bezhetski orphanage.
