Support for Publishing in English
The HSE Academic Writing Centre is preparing a major celebration of its 15th anniversary—the international academic writing conference ‘Celebrate Writing with Us.’ So far, 282 participants from 19 countries have accepted the invitation.
‘Our main goal over the past 15 years has been to help HSE researchers and lecturers develop their academic writing and scholarly communication skills in English. The centre—one of the first of its kind in Russia—has accumulated unique expertise that we are ready to share,’ said Svetlana Suchkova, Director of the Centre. ‘A distinctive feature of this conference will be its practice-oriented focus. A variety of formats, both traditional and unconventional, will allow speakers to share not only research on the teaching of writing at different levels of higher education, but also their own materials, assignments, and practical advice. We are planning a true celebration, with a firework of ideas, writing competitions, and intellectual treats. We look forward to meeting like-minded colleagues.’
Each year, more than 3,000 HSE staff members use the services of the Academic Writing Centre. It offers courses, seminars, one-to-one consultations, and a range of projects—from a discussion club to an AI marathon. According to a 2025 survey, 95% of users believe that these services help them improve their academic writing skills in English.
‘The Academic Writing Centre does outstanding work that is highly valuable both for the university as a whole and for members of the academic—and wider—community,’ noted Konstantin Degtyarev, Associate Professor of the School of Software Engineering at the Faculty of Computer Science.
The conference programme will include seminars and workshops where participants can try writing in English across a range of genres. Guests can expect to explore best practices in teaching academic writing, research on writing for publication purposes, and the creative use of AI tools. All participants will also have the opportunity to take part in writing competitions and receive gifts from the conference partners.
The international academic writing conference ‘Celebrate Writing with Us’ will take place on April 24–25, 2026, in a hybrid format: on-site at the HSE campus on Pokrovsky Bulvar and online. Full details are available on the conference website.
