From the start of the new academic year, the HSE University–Moscow Office for Public Catering Services (HSE Cafe) is updating its meal options. Now, students and staff can choose from three types of meal, from basic sets to expanded meals with a choice of items. The price of basic set meals will remain the same (280 rubles).
There are two key principles behind the new system: keeping full meals affordable and expanding the range of items for those looking varied and rich dining options.
FIX meal — 280 rubles
A set meal at the same price as before. It still includes a salad, soup, hot main with a side, and a drink.
The main change is that the contents of the FIX meal will be set by the menu of the day. It is not possible to substitute individual items for others.
MIX meal — 350 rubles
A new, expanded format for those who want to create their own meal, with a wide range of dishes to choose from.
This meal was developed with customer needs in mind, and the range of items will be expanded to include even more salads, soups, hot meals, and sides.
COMBO meal — 320 rubles
An option that combines a wide assortment with a more compact meal. The COMBO set offers the same selection as the MIX set, but without either a soup or salad (at the customer’s choice).
The cost of ingredients and raw materials has risen significantly, which directly impacts the cost of a full meal. It is important to HSE Cafe to be able to offer a more flexible and convenient system while preserving both the quality and variety of catering options.
Before making this decision, the HSE Cafe team examined the dining options at other leading universities in Moscow. Today, the average price of a meal in an analogous segment is 300–450 rubles. The new, more flexible formats in HSE’s dining halls are at the lower end of this price range at 350 rubles, and the basic meal for 280 rubles remains one of the most affordable university catering options in Moscow.
‘HSE University sets a high standard not only in education and research, but also in its infrastructure and services for students and staff. Our goal as the university’s catering unit is to meet this same standard by improving our selection, the quality of preparation, the menu, and the service,’ explains Evgeny Khomyakov, manager at the Office for Public Catering Services.
From September 1, there will not be a dedicated vegetarian set meal. However, meat-free dishes will still be available, and they will appear in the menu of the day. They will also be available in MIX and COMBO meals.
The new catering system gives everyone the flexibility to choose the format that suits them: paying the same price for a full meal, choosing an expanded meal with a wide variety of options, or opting for a more compact format.
