Cars No Longer a Priority

A team of students and alumni from the Higher School of Economics took part in the bicycle parade #WowMoscow on Moscow City Day. The cyclists rode 26 kilometers along Moscow’s streets and embankments, going all the way from the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman monument at VDNKh to Krasnaya Presnya Park.

‘Over the last three or four years, Moscow’s cycling infrastructure has made a huge leap forward. Some roads now have bike lanes, including ones located at different levels from pedestrian sidewalks. Signs were also hung to warn automobile drivers of the cycling lanes,’ according to the head of HSE’s team, Dmitry Nevelich, who is also the creator of the Velono4 HSE project. Dmitry says an obvious trend has arisen in Moscow, and cycling is becoming more and more popular since having an automobile is ceasing to be a priority for younger people. In addition, more and more people are trying to lead a healthy lifestyle, and the bicycle is an accessible tool for this that does not require any particularly complex skills.
