Who Made it to the Finals in the Student Initiative Competition

On March 18 there will be public presentations defending projects that have made it to the second round of the student initiative competition. After the voting – by registered users of the Vyshka (HSE) Family website, 20 projects were selected out of a total 73. The winning projects will receive funding from the Student Initiative Support Fund.

The proposals that made it to the top-20 extra-curricular student initiatives include cultural events (holding a Spring Ball, or City Historic Quest in Moscow), media projects (HSE newspaper, reality show – business battle), educational and personal development initiatives (interactive online resource Written Russian – Lets learn to read) and sport (a joint HSE – MSU regatta). A full list of the finalists’ projects that will be presented before the jury has been published on the Student Initiative Support Centre site (in Russian).

The competition organizers have noted a key development – the appearance of two inter-campus projects which were possible thanks to the university-wide conference devoted to student organizations and student councils, that took place in November 2014: the What? Where? When? Competition and trips to the Caucasus.  Although this does not guarantee their success in the finals.

During the final presentation, the project authors will have to prove that their initiatives are needed. They will have just three minutes and so the students will have to highlight the advantages of their startups in a kind of ‘elevator pitch’ to investors.

The maximum funding awarded to HSE student initiatives this year will be 200,000 rubles.

The event will take place on March 18, from 3 pm to 6 pm at Myasnitskaya 20, auditorium 125 and will be broadcast live: http://92.242.59.143/live2/ApplePlayer.html (for iPad, iPod, iPhone) and http://92.242.59.143/live2/SmoothStreamingPlayer.html (for computers and laptops).

A list of the winning projects that are to receive financing will be published on the HSE Student Initiative Support Center website by March 20.
