HSE Tourism Club Branch Opened in Nizhny Novgorod

HSE Student tourism club (former MIEM tourism club) has opened a branch in Nizhny Novgorod.

According to Leonid Postovsky, Head of HSE tourism club, the organisation can help students, lecturers and alumni to prepare for hiking and trekking tours. Moreover, the club administration plans to organize all-university trips where participants from all three HSE campuses will be able to take part in events.

‘Like all HSE campuses, each of the club branches (In Moscow, St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod) is quite independent, yet they all form a single organization, — says Leonid Postovsky. — We hope that this structure will help us to organize trips and hikes, which will unite tourism fans from the whole university.  There are three main positions in the structure of any club: chair, secretary and head of the tourist school.

Maria Nikulina, 3rd-year student of Business Informatics, is now both chair and secretary of the club. The position of the tourist school head is divided between Viktoria Golubeva, 2nd-year Economics student and Valeriya Lakshina, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Mathematical Economics. They both have some experience of organizing trips (boating and hiking respectively) and considerable tourist experience as a whole.

‘I joined the club in summer 2015, when the all-university gathering in Arkhyz was held. The event was organized by the Moscow branch of the club, says Maria Nikulina,  ‘It was the first hike in my life, but thanks to the organiser’s advice and assistance, the experience was inspiring. Now, during the winter, I organize theoretical lessons for the members of the Nizhny Novgorod branch: we learn how to give first aid, organize tourist trips and so on.’

The club branches use a common database of lecture materials gathered by the Moscow tourist club over the last 14 years, and branch leaders in all campuses constantly top it up. From time to time members of the Moscow club deliver lectures in regions and share their experience. For example, a lecture on planning meals during hikes was held at HSE St. Petersburg.

Anyone, who meets the trip requirements determined by the hike leader can join a trip organized by any club branch. For trip announcements, contacts and further information please visit the webpage of the club
