HSE Students Vote for Headliners of HSE Day 2019

The evening concert at the Green Theatre is one of the main highlights of HSE Day every year. HSE News Service explains how to vote for your event headliner of choice, why HSE people are crazy about Valery Meladze and who HSE students and Lyceum students voted for this year.

Valery Meladze was students’ number 1 choice for a second year in a row.

How to Vote

For the second year in a row, students have the opportunity to choose the headliner of the evening concert.

The voting is held in two rounds. First students post comments below the post on HSE Studlife page. The most popular choices are determined by the number of likes, and the organisers make a long list of the 25 most popular performers.

After processing the results, the list is put to a vote in HSE Family. This year, a special survey was created for Lyceum students. A week later, HSE Day organisers receive the list of the top 10 performers who have received the most votes. The organisers will then contact these ten performers about headlining the concert, and the results will be posted in August.

It has been a tradition to invite musicians to perform at the event since the very first HSE Day. At first, this decision was made by event organizers, but starting in 2018, it has been HSE students who decide who the HSE Day headliner is.

Previous HSE concert headliners have been:

  • 2012: Bi-2
  • 2013: Nochnye Snaipery
  • 2014: Bi-2
  • 2015: Spleen
  • 2016: Zveri
  • 2017: Gradusy, Noize Mc
  • 2018: The Hatters, Khleb

What’s new?

This year, not only HSE students but also Lyceum students can vote. The voting procedure has also changed: this year the participants could vote for their top five choices, instead of only one. This helps better show the preferences of HSE and Lyceum students, and it also makes the choice easier: there is no need to painfully choose your one and only favorite. The organisers also plan to involve HSE staff in voting.

What’s more, this year students can offer their ideas about how to fairly distribute tickets amongst HSE students. The number of seats in the Green theatre is limited, but there are more and more people who want to attend HSE Day concert. The organisers have tried different ways to solve the problem: distributing tickets depending on students’ year, requiring online registration to the concert, and requiring that people pick up their tickets in person in advance. However, each of these solutions had its drawbacks. It is therefore important that all participants have a say in how the tickets will be distributed.

Why HSE is Fond of Valery Meladze

Valery Meladze is HSE’s top choice for the second year in a row. In 2018, HSE Day coincided with the dates of his tour and, unfortunately for those who voted, the singer was unable to join the holiday. However, in October 2018, Valery Meladze appeared on a popular student talk show and at the end of 2018 he recorded a new year's greeting to HSE students.

The HSE Day headliner will be announced in August, and you can follow the news on HSE's official website and in student media.
