The following changes take effect in student projects in 2020: 1.5 million roubles allocated for the new urban project, an increase in the amount of basic funding and a simplified competition, updated voting procedure and application deadlines.

Student Project Contest

This year the contest will undergo several big changes.

A new category, ‘Urban projects’, will be added to the contest. Winners in this category can get up to 1.5 million roubles to implement their projects. The funding can be allocated to public events as well social, sport, cultural and creative projects. The projects must be implemented in public spaces that involve the city community.

Other initiatives in the categories of Research and Education, Sport and Travel, Social Projects, Media and Cultural projects can still receive support of up to 300,000 rubles.

The voting process for members of HSE Family will also undergo several changes: to vote for a project, you’ll only need to assess it once, giving it a score of between 1 and 10 points.

Applications for the winter student project contest will be open from February 18th to March 2nd. Applications for the next contest will open at the end of April, and the Autumn 2020 competition starts in mid-September. To participate in the contest, you need to submit an application using the ‘project contest’ section on the HSE Family website.

Simplified Contest

In 2020, the maximum amount of requested funding for the student project contest will be 20,000 roubles. To apply, you should send an application to the Student Initiative Support Centre at least 2 weeks before the event. More information about the simplified competition can be found here (in Russian).

Basic Funding

This year the amount of basic funding will be 15,000 roubles. All student organizations registered before January 1, 2020 will receive this support.

Basic funding is guaranteed financial support for student organizations at HSE. It goes towards running expenses for the student organization. For example, organizations can buy office supplies for classes and workshops, or refreshments and prizes for their events.
