SmartPoint: New Version of MyHSE Services Account Features New Functions and Updates

The MyHSE Services Account has a new name: SmartPoint. This change does not merely entail a new interface. The IT Office has been working on updating the system for the last six months. Let’s find out why it is better than its previous version.

Modern design

The first thing that users see when they log into the new account is the new interface. Now you can switch between services using the navigation bar on the left side of the screen. You can customize the order of elements on the screen by deleting or adding them depending on your preferences.

Single verification system

To log in, you still need to have your identity verified, but now you can select your role when logging in — student, staff, or external users get the services they need. Later on, this step will not be necessary. We plan to set up a single sign-on mechanism (SSO) through the official website of Moscow mayor and government mos.ru, ESIA, Google, Facebook, Twitter, and other services. This approach will also be applied to other HSE information systems and will eliminate the need for additional login and password when switching between them. So far, 16 information systems and mobile applications have already been connected to the unified verification system. By the end of the year, we plan to include all functioning information systems in a single verification loop.

Quick search and other services

You can now search not only for available services, but also for information about HSE departments and staff contact information. You can save contacts and add them to your favourites. For teachers and students, your schedule is available on the home screen. You can also create a list of favourite services for quick access.

Notifications

Users can find out about the status of applications submitted to SmartPoint directly in their account. Previously, notifications were sent only via email. You can view your entire list of notifications for all requests on one page. You can also now follow the latest HSE news in your personal account—a ‘news’ section has been added.

Answers to questions and prompt feedback

In the new section, ‘Questions and Answers’, you can find answers to the users’ most frequently asked questions. Each Q and A contains a set of hashtags for easy search. Using the feedback form, you can request help on SmartPoint functions with one click. This service is only available in Russian at the moment.

Personal data

Access to the system is provided for HSE students and staff using their HSE login (email) and password, and for external users by the email and password they specify when registering. A special section of the account displays users' personal data. If an error occurs in the system, you can now report it.

Multilanguage

Another advantage of the new version is the ability to easily change the display language. Now you can do this without programming or updating the system. Currently, SmartPoint supports only one language—Russian. But it will soon have an English-language interface (translation is currently underway). In the future, other foreign languages will be added: Chinese, French, German, and so on.

According to Sergey Shelest, Head of the Office for Integration Solutions, these are just the few advantages of the new SmartPoint.

‘The previous version of the service was outdated. Therefore, when upgrading the personal account, we decided to not just update the interface, but rework the whole approach by implementing the SmartPoint. Our modular architecture based on widgets will allow us to add new functions at a minimal cost in the near future. The flexible API system allows users to get access to any HSE information system. In addition, it provides users a variety of functions. We are currently working on adding electronic document management system widgets.’
