On September 19, Your LMS Password Will Expire. What You Need to Know

On September 19, all students will have to reset their passwords for HSE’s online services and information systems (the date has been updated). Indicate your mobile phone number in your personal online account, and a new password will be sent to you via SMS. Read on to learn why you must change your password and what to do if something goes wrong.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: The date for resetting the passwords has been pushed back to September 26.

What will I be unable to access with my old password?

MS Teams, the HSE Online Education platform (Moodle), HSE Family, the LMS online educational support system, the Liber Media library system, all HSE library Internet resources that require authorization, the exam platform et.hse.ru, Marketplace, RUZ, Smart LMS, and your MyHSE Services account.

What do I need to do before September 19?

Log in to your MyHSE account using the login information that you use to access LMS or your HSE email account (student@edu.hse.ru). On your profile page in your HSE account, enter your mobile phone. Click the ‘Send code’ button. An SMS with a code will be sent to your specified mobile number. Once you receive the code, enter it in the code field and click the confirmation button. This step is required to ensure there are no mistakes in the phone number you have entered in your account—it is via SMS that you will receive your new password.

Important: even if you have already entered your mobile number in your account before, you still need to re-enter it and confirm it via SMS

This is necessary in order to ensure that you will receive your password to the correct number without any problems.

I am an international student and I don't have a Russian SIM card because I am outside Russia at the moment. What should I do?

If you are an international student and do not have a Russian SIM card, follow the instructions on this page, entering your current phone number. There are no differences for you. Please note that, due to delays caused by sending an SMS internationally, it might take 1 to 5 minutes to receive the SMS with a code. Once you receive the code, enter it into your MyHSE account.

What will happen on September 19?

On the morning of September 19 (Saturday. Initially it was September 12 but the date has been pushed back), technical work will begin, which will take about a day. Access to information systems using your old password will be denied. If you have specified your mobile number in your online MyHSE Services account in advance, an SMS with a new password will be sent to it. As soon as this happens, you can log into all the usual systems and also gain access to many new services.

If you did not enter your phone number in your account before September 19, then you will be able to log in to HSE online services with a temporary password once the tech work is over. Your temporary password was given to you by your programme manager when you were admitted to HSE. If you don’t remember it, it contains the symbols Edu and you student ID card number (without any spaces, only the numbers, without any additional characters if your ID number contains them: EduXXXXXX). Before using HSE’s IT services, please log in to your online HSE account and reset your password to one that is more secure.

I'm a first-year student. Do I need to do this?

Yes. You received an HSE email address from your programme manager. This email address doubles as your login information to HSE services as well as your password (a temporary password that you must reset to something that only you know). Before September 19, enter your phone number in your online MyHSE account, and you will receive a new password via SMS. If you cannot do this (for instance if you have an international phone number), on September 19 your password will be reset to the defulat one. Once this happens, in order to ensure your informational security, you should reset it.

Why do students have to do this?

This is the first step towards personalizing automated services for everyone at HSE. Students will have full access to HSE’s online services. This has never happened before. The accounts will be connected to an SSO (Single Sign On). This will allow you to seamlessly log into one of the HSE systems and switch to others without having to re-enter your username and password or remember different passwords to different systems.

Your MyHSE Services account will have a full-fledged interface for managing your profile. Students will have access to services including HSE’s hotline and educational services (internships, tuition discounts, etc.), and they will be able to manage their subscriptions to newsletters and use administrative services. The range of services will expand. Soon it will be possible to receive consultation services from the Office of Staff and Student Benefits.

Your account will stay with you forever. Even when you graduate, you will still have access to alumni information services and your HSE email account. This way you can keep in touch with HSE.

I entered and confirmed my phone number in my account but haven’t received an SMS with my new password. What should I do?

After your password expires on September 19, it will take some time before you receive an SMS with a new password. You may receive a new password the same day, or you may not receive it until the next day. If you have not received an SMS by Monday, September 14, contact your programme office manager.

If you have any questions about technical issues (aside from resetting and recovering your password), you can get help via the ‘Hotline’ button in your MyHSE Services account, or by sending a request by email to digital@hse.ru. You can also contact us by phone: +7 (495) 625-50-15 or +7 (495) 772-95-90 * 55555. Hotline operators work from Monday to Saturday from 08:00 to 20:00 MST. Electronic applications are accepted 24/7.
