Online Discussion 'International Virtual Exchange in Your Classroom: No Visa Needed'

On April 27, 2021 Teach4HSE Project will hold an online discussion ‘International Virtual Exchange in Your Classroom: No Visa Needed’. Staff members of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs (HSE) and Akita International University will share their experience in implementing the online research project.

Challenging pandemic time 2020 required new approaches to international educational programs and especially to virtual exchange projects. This was a valuable lesson for the future which we cannot overlook. During this seminar we will share experience how we managed to complete the International Collaborative Research Program 2020-2021 Northeast Asia since 2012 - Political and Economic Analysis”. This international student project was implemented in the 2020/2021 academic year enabling youth in Russia, HSE University and Japan, Akita International University to engage in meaningful intercultural experiences online, as part of their formal education (getting credits) and gave opportunities to students to get acquainted with an array of different cultural and community perspectives and alternative, multi-faceted approaches to learning and broaden horizons on online base.

Analysis of the emerging political and economic directions, assessment of the development potential of the space of stable multidisciplinary interaction in the Northeast Asia region were the central tasks of this project. Among the most difficult and important tasks for the supervisors of the projects was creating of the effective learning environment to support students and focus on all the advantages of online learning.

The issues for discussion:

  • What kind of digital technologies should be used for effective online group work?
  • What special skills are required for virtual team work on the side of supervisors and participants?
  • How to engage the participants in constructive, respectful and authentic project dialogues?
  • How to deepen multicultural cross-cultural dialogue?
