Starting June 7, Students Can Choose Elective Courses for Next Year

This year students can do it in the updated ‘Elective courses’ module

From May 15- 30, 1st-3rd year bachelor’s, 1st-year master’s and 1st-4th year specialist students select their electives for the next academic year. This can be done in the updated 'Elective courses' module, which was tested on May 20-26.

Impotant update: Due to unexpected technical issues, the registration campaign has been halted. The course selection module was overloaded, so the system could not properly process the requests of students. The IT Office is currently analyzing all student and study office staff requests and is making every effort to remedy the situation as quickly as possible.

Despite the fact that more than 18,000 applications from 4,209 students were submitted in the first hour of the registration campaign, the results of the current registration round will be cancelled, as not all students were able to participate on an equally competitive basis.

Registration is set to re-open on Wednesday, June 9, at 3pm and will run until June 14.

There will be two registration rounds. The first one will take place on June 7-12.

All students will get access to the list of courses after logging in with their HSE University email and password. On June 15-17, study office managers, department managers, and academic supervisors will analyse the results of the first round and make the decision about launching the courses next academic year.

The second registration round for those students who for some reason did not take part in the first round, or whose applications were rejected due to cancelled disciplines, will be held on June 18-19.

Features of the new module

  • All subjects indicated as "for all HSE campuses" and "for all" will be taught online. Students from different campuses can enroll in such courses (more information on the course format is available in the curriculum).
  • Lecturers will conduct a preliminary selection of students for some courses. Students will be informed about the maximum number of applications for such courses. Students registering in the first round will selected based on the criteria specified in the curriculum or by the instructor. The students whose applications were rejected will have to choose different courses to complete their individual curriculum in the second registration round.
  • When choosing a course, you need to create your own schedule (each group is for the limited number of students).
  • 1st-year bachelor’s students can choose an ESL course in the English language section.

Instructions on working with the module are available here (in Russian).

Students who do not register for any elective courses will study the courses assigned by the study office staff.
