HSE University Staff Can Now Access Over 3,000 Courses on Coursera

© Daniil Prokofyev / HSE University

As part of the Coursera for Campus project, HSE University staff members now have free access to over 3,000 online courses on the platform. Each staff member can take up to six courses of their choice and get certificates of completion.

This project is part of the Coursera Partner Consortium, which HSE University is a member of.

To increase accessibility to educational content during the pandemic and social isolation, the platform initiated Coursera for Campus programme in summer 2020. Over the past year, 334 university employees have taken advantage of this opportunity. The most popular online courses among university staff were University Teaching, Programming for Everybody (Getting Started with Python), ‎Introduction to Data Science in Python, Speak English Professionally: In Person, Online & On the Phone and The Science of Well-Being.

A saw an announcement about Coursera for Campus project on HSE University Life, sent it to my colleagues and students, and started choosing courses for myself. I’m a big fan of online learning and often take Coursera courses, so I immediately took advantage of this opportunity. As part of this programme, I have taken six courses and completed five of them with certificates. These were Storytelling and influencing: Communicate with Impact, Managing Your Professional Trajectory (in Russian), The Science of Well-Being, and Learning How to Learn: Powerful Mental Tools to Help You Master Tough Subjects. The two latter courses are truly wonderful in terms of contents and delivery. I enjoyed learning and completing the assignments and I now recommend these courses to everyone! I often recall examples from them in my everyday and professional life.

The courses have also been useful in terms of knowledge and skills (soft skills, in this case), as well as teaching competencies. It is important to know how disciplines that are close or far from your field are taught at leading universities. All the more so that we don’t often attend other teachers’ classes at our home university: online courses are a good alternative in this regard.
