On December 23, HSE Rector Nikita Anisimov and HSE President Alexander Shokhin granted awards to staff members for their outstanding multi-year contribution to the development of HSE University.
‘As we were preparing for the event, we discovered that the first Honour Awards, which are the university’s highest awards, were given in 2011, exactly ten years ago,’ said Natalia Savelieva, spokesperson for the ceremony and Academic Secretary at HSE University.
173 members of the university staff have received Honour Awards over the past decade, including colleagues who received two or even three Honour Awards of different classes.
Sergey Avdoshin, Distinguished Professor, Tenured Professor of HSE University, Professor at the MIEM School of Computer Engineering, Scientific Supervisor of the master’s programme in System and Software Engineering.
Prof. Avdoshin has worked at HSE University since 2005; he is a renowned Russian expert in information technology and creator of Russia’s first programme in software engineering.
Ivan Arzhantsev, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science, Head of the Laboratory on Algebraic Transformation Groups, Chair of the Academic Council Committee on Continuing Education Programmes.
Prof. Arzhantsev has worked at HSE University since 2011. The programmes offered by his faculty are popular among applicants; every year, they attract more and more National School Olympiad winners. The faculty boasts a team of leading researchers in data analysis and processing, applied mathematics, software engineering and theoretical computer science.
Vyacheslav Bashev, Vice Rector of HSE University.
Dr Bashev has worked at the university since 2013; he has been Vice Rector since 2014 and supervises HSE University’s activities related to pre-university training and relations with prospective students.
Dr Bashev and his team built a complex system of policies that attract talented and high-achieving students to the university. The number of HSE applicants who are winners of the National School Olympiad is growing every year. Mr. Bashev coordinates the activities of HSE Lyceum, which has made a breakthrough in the Moscow secondary school ranking.
Vladimir Bessonov, Head of the Department for Analysis of Real Economy Sector Industries and Foreign Trade at the HSE Centre of Development Institute, Deputy Editor-in-Chief at the Editorial Office of the HSE Economic Journal, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economic Sciences Department of Applied Economics.
Dr Bessonov has worked at HSE University since 1994, nearly from its very first days. He has authored numerous papers in Russian macroeconomic dynamics measurement.
Olga Dragoy, Director of the Center for Language and Brain, Professor at the Faculty of Humanities School of Philological Studies.
Prof. Dragoy started working at HSE University in April 2013 as Head of the Laboratory of Neurolinguistics. Over the past years, the laboratory has grown and become the Centre for Language and Brain, and today, as its director, Prof. Dragoy is successfully developing the infrastructure for research and implementation of research outcomes. Papers by Prof. Dragoy are contributing to the development of Russian neuro- and psycholinguistics. Her outstanding academic results include the development of tests to diagnose speech disorders in Russian-speaking children and adults.
Vladimir Isakov is Tenured Professor, Professor at the Faculty of Law School for Theory of Law and Cross-sectoral Legal Disciplines.
Prof. Isakov is a renowned expert in legal analysis, juridical facts in legal regulation mechanisms and structuring digital document workflow. He is member of the editorial office of the Law. Journal of the Higher School of Economics quarterly.
Rostislav Kapeliushnikov, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy Director of the Centre for Labour Market Studies.
Prof. Kapeliushnikov has worked at HSE University since 2001. He has authored integrated studies of the Russian labour market and has performed a comprehensive assessment of qualitative and quantitative indicators of human capital in Russia along with a comparative analysis with other countries. His research holds high practical and methodical value and has found practical implementation in consultations that he has provided for Russian ministries and government agencies for many years.
Vasily Klucharev, Tenured Professor of HSE University, Director of the Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience, Head of the International Laboratory of Social Neurobiology, Scientific Supervisor of the programme ‘Cognitive Sciences and Technologies: From Neuron to Cognition’.
The Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience is Russia’s leading neuroscience centre, which carries out human brain research with non-invasive technology. Prof. Klucharev has undertaken significant organizational work on the improvement of existing and discovery of new research areas, such as neuroeconomics, social neurobiology, communication, language, speech, theoretical neuroscience, interfaces, and others.
Marina Litvintseva, Director for International Research.
Marina Litvintseva has been at HSE University since 1994 when she began her career as a student. Today, Marina Litvintseva coordinates the highly important international laboratory programme, which selects and supports the most promising and globally competitive research teams.
Alexey Novoseltsev, Vice Rector of HSE University.
Alexey Novoseltsev has worked at HSE University since 2003. He oversees the development of the university’s economic and financial policy. The budgeting process at HSE University has been optimized under his supervision. Thanks to his efforts, the HSE Business Incubator has expanded, the Foundation for Support of Innovative Entrepreneurship was created, and advanced intellectual property management policies have been implemented, along with many other policies.
Leonid Polyakov, Professor at the Department of the Theory and Practice of Business-Government Interaction, Research Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences School of Politics and Governance.
Prof. Polyakov has worked at HSE University since 2003. He has authored research on political modernization, ‘sovereign democracy’, the history of Russian political thought, and the political history of conservatism. Since 2015, he has been member and chair of the editorial council at Tetradi Po Konservatismu journal. Prof. Polyakov is member of the Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights.
Prof. Polyakov has authored a concept for teaching social studies to high school students and is involved in extensive methodical work for social studies instruction in schools, as well as in university political science courses.
Ivan Prostakov, Vice Rector of HSE University.
Dr Prostakov joined HSE University in 2016. He has promoted the expansion of HSE University’s cooperation with educational and research centres in Asia and the CIS. He has directly supervised the implementation of a new international student enrolment procedure that includes advanced marketing tools, has built a communication strategy for international applicant relations and has created an infrastructure for marketing the university’s education exports.
Dr Prostakov is deputy chair of the Programme Committee and chair of the Organizing Committee for the Yasin International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development.
Vladlen Timorin, Distinguished Professor, Professor at the Faculty of Mathematics Joint Department with the Steklov Mathematical Institute, Research Fellow at the Laboratory of Algebraic Geometry and Its Applications.
Prof. Timorin has been at HSE University since 2009. From 2015 to 2020, he was Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics. Under his supervision, the faculty saw considerable strengthening of its positions both nationally and internationally. A tenured professor, Prof. Timorin is a member of the Moscow Mathematical Society and a member of the board at the Independent Moscow University, which signifies the high degree to which the mathematical community values his research achievements.
Maria Falikman, Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences School of Psychology, Leading Research Fellow at the Laboratory for Cognitive Research.
Prof. Falikman has worked at HSE University since 2011 as a leading research fellow (part-time), and since 2017, as Professor acting as Head of the School of Psychology in the Faculty of Social Sciences. Over her years as Head of the School of Psychology (from 2017 to 2021), HSE University has taken leading positions in international university rankings in psychology. Prof. Falikman’s research interests include cognitive psychology and cognitive science, problems and methods of interdisciplinary interaction, and problems of digital transformation of human cognitive processes. She carries out experimental studies in visual attention in humans.
Elena Shakina, Head of the International Laboratory of Intangible-driven Economy, HSE Campus in Perm, Leading Research Fellow at the International Laboratory of Intangible-driven Economy, HSE Campus in St. Petersburg.
Dr Shakina started working at the HSE Perm campus in in 2002. Today, she successfully combines teaching and research in Perm and St. Petersburg, heading a distributed research centre that studies the role of intangible assets and sustainable competitive advantages. Prof. Shakina is a member of the Council on Data at the Federal Labour and Employment Service.
Svetlana Avdasheva, Tenured Professor, Distinguished Professor, Head of the Faculty of Economic Sciences Department of Applied Economics, Deputy Director of the Institute for Industrial and Market Studies.
Prof. Avdasheva has worked at HSE since 1993. She is a leading expert in the economic analysis of competition policy, including antitrust legislation. Prof. Avdasheva was one of the first staff members to receive the Honour Award in 2011.
Sergey Karaganov, Academic Supervisor at the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs.
Dr Karaganov has worked at HSE University since 2003. From 2006 to 2021 he was Dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs. Under his supervision, the faculty became one of Russia’s leading academic centres in world economy, international relations, and Asian studies. Prof. Karaganov has authored over 500 papers on economic policy, foreign policy, arms control, national security strategy, and Russian military policy.
Lilia Ovcharova, Vice Rector, Director of the Institute for Social Policy.
Prof. Ovcharova has worked at HSE University since 2012. She has made a considerable contribution to the development of statistical measurement and analysis tools for poverty and inequality in Russia. Prof. Ovcharova is actively participating in the development of administrative solutions at the federal and regional levels with respect to family policy, support for families with children, implementation of social contract technology and family adoption for orphaned children.
She is one of the most active members of the Russian Governmental Council on wardship in the social sphere, having initiated the creation of the Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Centre as part of a consortia of four organizations: HSE University, RANEPA, MGIMO, and the RAS Miklouho-Maklay Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology.
Alexander Sokolov, Tenured Professor, Deputy Director at the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge, Director of the Foresight Centre.
Prof. Sokolov has worked at HSE University since 2003. He is a leading Russian expert in long-term technology and socio-economic forecasting and methods of foresight studies. He is deputy editor-in-chief at Foresight journal.
Fuad Aleskerov, Tenured Professor, Distinguished Professor, Head of the Faculty of Economic Sciences Department of Mathematics, Director of the International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis.
Prof. Aleskerov has been part of HSE University since 2003. He is one of the founders of contemporary choice theory, which lies in the basis of such disciplines as decision-making theory, economics, and psychology. Today, he is actively working on modelling the COVID-19 virus dissemination.
Natalia Savelieva, Academic Secretary of HSE University.
Dr Savelieva has worked at HSE University since 1994. She is responsible for overseeing preparation of Academic Council sessions, competitive selection of candidates for teaching positions, and the university’s participation in internship and charity programmes and projects. Dr Savelieva has been awarded the ‘Merit to the Fatherland’ Medal, 2nd class (November 2012), ‘Acknowledgement – 25 years of Successful Work’ HSE Medal (January 2020), and several other state and university awards.
