What HSE University is doing to restore services

© Daniil Prokofyev/ HSE University

As recently reported, HSE University’s email systems have been hit by a cyberattack. While the attack was stopped swiftly, the university’s email and calendar services are still experiencing outages. Read on to learn about what the university has done to resolve these issues, as well as what other measures students and staff can take to ensure information security.

The university’s information security specialists have taken every necessary measure since the start of the cyberattack. Their work is nearing completion and normal operation of the university’s services will be restored soon.

The university’s Security Office is analysing reports of a possible data breach and is taking the necessary measures to protect staff and students. Classes and other processes at the university are unaffected and continue as normal.

Students and staff can contact the Digital Office hotline with any questions they may have. You can text + 7 (915) 363 35 03 or send a message through the HSE Hotline section of your MyHSE Services Account.

There are also additional measures that students and staff can take to protect their personal data:

  • You should regularly change the password to your MyHSE Services Account. You can also check the strength of your password here.
  • If you use your own Windows device to access the university’s information systems, it is important to install antivirus software. Information for staff on installing antivirus software on home computers is available on the website (in Russian).
  • Certain information systems can only be accessed remotely using a VPN. You can submit a request for VPN access though the IT Support section of your MyHSE Services Account.
  • If you have any other questions about information security, you can ask them here.
