HSE University Transitions to New SmartPro Project System

© Daniil Prokofyev/ HSE University

On April 24, the Project Fair project activity aggregator moved to a new platform. Detailed instructions on the use of the new platform will be posted inside. Read on to find out how these changes affect the initiators and potential participants of projects.

Why has Project Fair moved to the SmartPro platform?

The old system worked exclusively with projects. It could not perform the complex functions required by students and staff to work with various elements of practical training.

For example, Project Fair did not take into account the specifics of organising inter-faculty projects. The new system has special roles for these: faculty project managers who are directly involved in the process of coordinating projects. Also, students have often asked why they cannot initiate projects themselves and post them on Project Fair. This feature is now available.

Overall, the new platform has broader capabilities and is integrated with other HSE University systems.

Can students now post projects on the platform themselves?

Yes, students can initiate various elements of practical training. However, this still requires the involvement of a university manager.

What changes can faculty members expect from the new system?

Faculty can now access a special module for working with students’ applications. In the future, project managers will be able to view real-time information on the previous experience of students who apply to participate in their projects. What is more, in the near future, a module will be developed that allows staff of outside companies to submit applications to implement various forms of practical training at HSE University.

What other advantages does the new system have?

From the beginning, SmartPro has been oriented not only around project work, but around all kinds of practical training for students—from internships and term papers to theses, start-ups, and projects both within the educational process and as part of extracurricular activities.

Soon, users of the platform will be able to compile information related to practical training, structure it, make it transparent and, importantly, adapt it to the rapidly changing realities of our times. It will also help to more fully form student and manager portfolios from various elements of practical training. As such, starting with projects, it is planned to create a unified project and practical educational environment.

Is Project Fair shutting down?

No, the old system will continue operating for the moment, but functions will be split between Project Fair and SmartPro. In the first stage, SmartPro will take on the full workload related to research and applied projects. HSE University staff will be able to post applications on the platform, which students will be able to respond to accordingly.

Service projects will remain on Project Fair, as will applied and research projects submitted before April 24. It is no longer possible to submit new applied and research projects on Project Fair.

Who should I contact if I have any more questions?

The SmartPro system is operated and developed by staff of the Centre for Educational Model Design and the Digital Office (links in Russian). If you encounter any technical or logical errors in the operation of the system or have any suggestions regarding its features or user interface, you can contact the Support Centre.
