A Trip to Europe’s Highest Point

HSE’s Extreme Sports student club is organizing this year’s open skiing and snowboarding trip to the slopes of Mount Elbrus and Mount Cheget. The club invites not only students, alumni and staff of the HSE to participate in the event, but also their friends from other universities.

Trails have been arranged on the southern side of Elbrus, the highest point in Europe. The club’s instructors believe that Elbrus’ slopes, which have quite a few flat and long snowfields, are perfect for both experienced athletes and those who are just beginning to ski or snowboard. The club’s trainers will help beginners stand up on their skis and snowboards, as well as assist seasoned skiers improve their descent technique and master difficult elements and tricks.

Instructors of HSE’s Extreme Sports Club supervise the trips to the Elbrus resort, which is located 150 kilometres from the capital of the Kabardino-Balkaria federal subject – Nalchik. In addition to improving their skiing, trip participants will be able to become familiarized with the traditions and culture of this territory.

Previous trips have saw the participation of students and faculty from other schools as well, including Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, and others.

The club also works with one of the country’s best freeriding schools – My Free Ride – and experienced participants of the trip will have the opportunity to ski and snowboard under the supervision of Russian freeriding champions and current members of the Elbrus Search and Rescue Team of the Russian Ministry.
