Donor Day at HSE on Kirpichnaya

On April 18, 2017 a Donor Day was held at HSE on 33 Kirpichnaya ulitsa. The event was organized by the students in Business Informatics of the Faculty of Business and Management in cooperation with the Blood Centre of the Federal Biomedical Agency.

Over 60 students took part in the event, although only 40 of them were permitted to donate blood. The  students registered, were examined by the doctor and gave blood in rooms 212-214. During the procedure, donors were continually supervised by several doctors. They were also given sweet tea, biscuits and hematogen nutrition bars.

‘Donor Day is probably one of the kindest events organized by Business Informatics students,” says Gurgen Sogoyan, one of the event organizers. ‘We are particularly proud of this campaign, as the tradition now stretches back 7 years. We are glad that from year to year the event remains relevant to students. We already have some heroes – students who are giving blood for the tenth time today. I hope that each year the number of participants will continue to rise, and we will try to provide them with even more delicious sweets and smaller queues to the doctor.’

One in three people will, at some point, need a blood transfusion. Unfortunately, there’s no guarantee that you won’t need one. Russian hospitals are currently experiencing a shortage of donated blood, meaning that those who need blood face reduced chances of survival. Therefore, students from the Faculty of Business and Management are showing their willingness not just to help people, but to protect themselves and their loved ones by organizing and participating in this campaign.

Any healthy Russian resident who is older than 18, and who is free of any contraindications for blood donation, can participate in this event. The day before giving blood you need to keep a strict diet, and make sure you eat enough and have enough sleep.

Giving blood doesn't hurt. So we encourage students to engage with this issue, and not to be afraid to donate blood and help save people’s lives, after all, in getting involved you help not only patients, but also yourself!
