On September 26 twelve HSE faculty members were promoted to Tenured Professors.

This year’s best ICEF students participated in a summer school course at the London School of Economics (LSE). Each year, ICEF students with the highest grades are given the opportunity to study on an ICEF scholarship at the London School of Economics and Political Science’s Summer School. Students Dmitry Kazantsev, Pavel Taranin, Vasily Bogdan and Ruslan Durdyyev give us their impressions of the course.

HSE teams entered seven different contests at the first international festival of youth and student sports “Moscow Games 2014” - tennis, table tennis, volleyball and beach volleyball, football, basketball and swimming. The tennis team were festival champions.

HSE-St. Petersburg has hosted the Social Media and Social Movements conference, organized by the Laboratory for Internet Studies (LINIS). Over two days, participants from Germany, Sweden, the UK, the Netherlands, Iran and other countries presented reports about the connections between individuals' activity on social media and their offline activity, and on whether social media impact the desire to protest or take part in social movements.

HSE’s Nizhny Novgorod campus has a new professor. Invited Professor Rajarshi Mitra teaches advanced microeconomics to master’s and Ph.D. students, as well as time series analysis and the academic seminar ‘Econometric Analysis and Modeling in Economics and Finance.’ Professor Mitra comes to the HSE from India, though he has many years of experience working and teaching in the West.

The Higher School of Economics is becoming more and more internationalized. It is for this reason that HSE Day, which took place at Gorky Park, reached an international level as well. Among the numerous activities at the event were ones that featured English as their main form of communication. Thanks to this, international students, foreign instructors, and all guests of the celebration who wanted to speak English were able to feel they could take full participation in the events.

The 22nd HSE Open Tourist Rally will take place on September 20-21, 2014. The rally has been organized by HSE Extreme Sports club, and is open to all HSE students, as well as alumni and faculty. HSE students from Saint Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod often come to Moscow to take part in the event. This time the rally will feature an additional quest element and lots of fun competitions as well as live music.

On September 17, the HSE Perm will host an open lecture by Professor Hodge on the phenomenon of public-private partnership. Graeme Hodge, Professor of Law at Monash University (Australia), studies issues of social and economic policy, public administration and law in Europe, Australia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and China.

On the 10th of September, the Higher School of Economics received a lecture entitled 'Luxembourg: the European Fate of a Small State' from Pierre Ferring, Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to the Russian Federation, and Pierre Frank, Head of the Department of Investment Policy and Foreign Economic Activity of the Ministry of Economics.

Ksenia Kapranova, a graduate of HSE Nizhny Novgorod’s Faculty of Law, has recently been diagnosed with diffuse astrocytoma of the left parietal and temporal lobes and is in need of an urgent and expensive operation that can only be done in the U.S. or Germany.

A team of students and alumni from the Higher School of Economics took part in the bicycle parade #WowMoscow on Moscow City Day. The cyclists rode 26 kilometers along Moscow’s streets and embankments, going all the way from the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman monument at VDNKh to Krasnaya Presnya Park.
