The ‘Russian Education 2014’ exhibition in New Delhi invites young Indians to study at the HSE and other Russian universities.

For 8 years ISSEK has been participating in an international project to study the specific features of BRICS’s national innovation systems (NIS). Earlier this spring the participants gathered to discuss the project’s new phase.

Alina Kharina, who graduated from the HSE Perm with a Bachelor’s degree and the HSE Moscow with a Master’s degree in 2010, is co-founder of the social network SkillGravity.

The XI Russian and German research conference on structural reforms to stimulate regional economic growth took place at the HSE Saint Petersburg.

On April 17 th , 2014, the International Students Office together with AEGEE-Moskva, the European Students’ Forum representatives, gave a party for the HSE international students to get to know one another and Moscow and dismiss a few stereotypes. The location for the evening was  Jeffrey’s Coffee on Maroseyka St, founded not coincidentally by the HSE alumni.

Sociologists have developed a variety of theories and empirical research on social movements that are closely connected with democracy. Why do people join and stay in social movements? What happens to them when participants achieve their goals? Benjamin Lind, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sociology and author of the course 'History of Social Movements', explained what makes the subject relevant nowadays and shared his own experience with social movements in an interview for the HSE news service.

On April 23, 2014, Professor Dennis Mueller (University of Vienna, Austria) spoke at the HSE on 'Democracy and Citizenship'. He agreed to speak with the HSE news service to share his views on successful democracy and his impressions of the HSE as an institute.

A crisis of trust in Russian society keeps people from enjoying their lives to the full, said Anna Mironova, Research Intern of the HSE’s International Laboratory of Socio-Cultural Research and postgraduate student at the HSE Department of Demography in her presentation at the XV April International Conference.

The issue explores the tenure track system at HSE. How does it function in our university? What are the requirements for interim and final reviews? The editors spoke to Vice Rector Konstantin Sonin and the Director of the Centre for Advanced Studies, Martin Gilman to find out. Additionally, The HSE LooK talked to international participants of the XV International April Conference and they kindly shared their impressions from this big academic event.

The HSE Public Policy Department and the University of Bologna are launching a double degree master’s programme in Political Analysis and Public Policy. Nina Belyaeva, Head of the HSE Department of Public Policy gave an interview to the HSE news service about future challenges and her hopes and expectations for the programme.

On April 1-4, 2014 the Higher School of Economics held its annual April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development. The conference international participants shared their impressions of the event in the April issue of the HSE Look.

The HSE was one of the first Russian universities that adopted the tenure track system, well-known in western universities.
