Since February 19, HSE community members have been able to get vaccinated against measles. All students, faculty, and staff, including foreign citizens, can get vaccinated for free. Remember—measles is an extremely dangerous and contagious disease that can only be prevented by getting vaccinated. There is still time to get vaccinated: the vaccination period has now been extended by one day to include February 22.

Last week, over 140 HSE students and graduates were awarded certificates in honour of the quality of their research in HSE’s 2018 Research Paper Competition. In addition to receiving the traditional awards, guests received some exciting news: 1) students are now invited to participate in SciCasting, a research blogger competition; and 2) the winners of the 2018 research paper competition will receive travel grants.

Because measles is already near. Don’t forget that there was a case of the measles in the Faculty of Communications, Media, and Design at Khitrovsky pereulok, 2/8, building 5. In order to ensure the safety of students and staff, HSE will begin offering the measles vaccine on campus once again starting February 19. On February 10, 2019, HSE Snow Fest – a winter sports festival, organized by HSE Extreme Sports Club and HSE Student Development Office  – was held at the ‘Kant’ skiing complex.

LG Electronics and the Higher School of Economics have announced the launch of a special collaborative educational project. A new computer classroom will provide students of engineering, industrial design, and computer programming the opportunity to study the most modern tools and methods of design using equipment designed for rapidly developing disciplines and the higher technological demands of their results. With a 21:9 aspect ratio, these monitors are currently the most conducive to solving such complex tasks at work and in school.

On January 25, 2019, the Insignia of Chevalier (Knight) of the French National Order of Merit was awarded to Gennady Ryabov, Advisor to the Director of HSE Nizhny Novgorod, by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Russia, Sylvie Bermann.

Students of the School of Asian Studies rang in the Korean and Chinese New Years, respectively, with lively celebrations this past week.

A conference of HSE employees and students will take place in March in order to evaluate the progress of the university development programme and elect new members to the Academic Council. The IT Department’s priority project to create a new MyHSE Services system for HSE won the ‘Project of the Year’ competition (in the category of education), which was organized by Global CIO, a professional association of IT directors in Russia.

Anton Nazarov has been appointed HSE Senior Director for Information Policy. Previously, he headed the information policy department at Inter RAO UES.

HSE staff members were awarded honour awards of the university and the Letter of Gratitude from the Government of the Russian Federation at the meeting of the Academic Council that was held on on February 1.

Every winter, HSE students and staff occupy the slope at the KANT skiing complex to organize the HSE Snow Fest. On this day, HSE students, HSE Lyceum students, and HSE staff together can go snowboarding and alpine skiing for free. In 2019, HSE Snow Fest takes place on February 10.
