The results of the children’s drawing competition ‘I Draw HSE’ have been announced. It was held in two age cohorts, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12. The competition aimed to give children whose families are connected to HSE an idea of what the university is.

September 26^th marked 40 days since the tragic death of Dmitry Semyonov, the Head of the IOE Laboratory for University Development and Aide to the HSE Rector. Below, the Academic Supervisor of the HSE Institute of Education, Isak Froumin, discusses the impact Dmitry (Dima) had on his colleagues, as well as his contribution to education research.

HSE has started distributing bank cards to its first-year students. If you are an international student on a Russian govenment scholarship (quota) you are eligible for such a card. On September 22, the first scholarships will be transferred via these cards. The schedule for the distribution of bank cards is presented below.

A traditional autumn camping weekend organized by the HSE Extreme Sports Club will take place on September 23 and 24. The event is open not only to HSE students and staff, but for backpacking lovers from other universities as well.

On September 8, a survey of HSE international students enrolling in 2017 was launched. The goal of the survey is to learn more about our new students, their educational background, choice of university and the challenges they faced during the application process.

At midday on September 11th, online voting to decide the winner of the ‘I draw HSE’ competition started. Voting is open till September 17.

HSE is only 25, so as a young university we love everything, new, fresh and high-tech. Since we are all one big family, it’s time we asked you, as family members, for advice on one key question: what does HSE lack? What should we have that we don’t yet? Have you been struck by something you’ve seen in practice at another university, that we don’t offer, but should? Why reinvent the wheel, if we can rent them, and if we come to like them, we can always keep them. We’ve prepared great prizes for the most interesting initiatives – real bikes!

On July 15th, 2017, the Moscow Alumni Golf Tournament 2017 took place at the Moscow City Golf Club. The event was supported by the Moscow Alumni Association, and attracted graduates, staff and students of several universities.

With HSE turning 25 this year, The HSE Look will be telling more about HSE’s outstanding projects, and in its 33rd issue we are focusing on International College of Economics and Finance (ICEF), which is perhaps best known for its successful double degree Bachelor’s programme with the University of London. In addition to the interview with ICEF Director, Sergey Yakovlev, in which he speaks about ICEF history, achievements and future plans, the readers will also learn about ICEF team, its study programmes, research, special opportunities for talented students, as well as about the extracurricular work with students and international cooperation.

The winners of the competition for the best project describing aspects of the country’s cultural, economic, social and educational history over the last 25 years have been announced.

A competition to come up with an HSE design for the bank cards that are used to transfer state scholarships to students has been held. 1, 897 students took part in the final vote to determine the card design.

The latest issue of That’s So HSE is dedicated to the entrepreneurial activities and entrepreneurial potential of HSE students, alumni, faculty and researchers. First, there is an overview of preferred career paths along with actual employment options pursued by HSE students and alumni. After that, we invite you to take a closer look at the details: find out how many students and 2016 alumni are in fact engaged in entrepreneurial activities, how many of them plan to become entrepreneurs themselves in future, and what steps they have taken in order to achieve this goal. In conclusion, we describe the ways of using external sources of financing for research projects implemented by HSE academic staff.
